Book Overview

Self-compassion is a powerful inner resource. More than a thousand research studies show the benefits of being a supportive friend to yourself, especially in times of need. This science-based workbook offers a step-by-step approach to breaking free of harsh self-judgments and impossible standards in order to cultivate emotional well-being. In a convenient large-size format, this is the first self-help resource based on the authors' groundbreaking 8-week Mindful Self-Compassion program, which has helped tens of thousands of people around the globe. Every chapter includes guided meditations (with audio downloads); informal practices to do anytime, anywhere; exercises; vivid examples of people using the techniques to address different types of challenges (relationship stress, weight and body image issues, health concerns, anxiety, and more); and empathic reflection questions. Working through the book, readers build essential skills for personal growth based on self-care--not self-criticism.

Great Step by Step Guide to Self-Compassion
My life was changed by this workbook. In a matter of months, I went from self-hatred to self-compassion. It helped break down how I used to talk to myself. The authors expect you to have doubts about the process. It's frightening how well they predict it. It was like someone stepped inside my brain and understood what was going on. I didn't know how well it worked until I woke up one morning and realized that my daily insult to myself was a lot quieter. I thought I'd be stuck with self-hatred for the rest of my life. I use this book with all of my clients who are struggling. I've seen results with people who want to stop being self-hatred. This book is good for anyone who is struggling. It's life changing.

Workbook is a poor rendition of their original works
I am not happy with the book. The information contained within its pages is great and beneficial, but it is copied and pasted from each of the authors individual books. Christopher Germer wrote The Mindful path to Self compassion. I use their books both personally and professionally and they are phenomenal. I refer back to the books. The authors did not change a thing in this workbook. It was copied word for word with no original material. The workbook is a watered-down version of their original works. I would recommend skipping this and just getting a copy of their books. There is more detail in each book.

   Words to live by.
I'm happy to read this new book by Dr. Germer. I have attended many of his workshops and his teachings have changed my life and the lives of my mental health clients. I am proud to be one of Dr. Germer's students. The book is filled with wisdom, insight, and practical advice. I bought 4 copies for friends and family. If you want to find peace, read this book. It works.
