The Book that Started the Organic Farming Revolution
Since its original publication in 1989, The New Organic Grower has been one of the most important farming books available, with pioneer Eliot Coleman leading the charge in the organic movement in the United States. Now fully illustrated and updated, this 30th Anniversary Edition is a must-have for any agricultural library.
Eliot Coleman's books and innovative methods have helped innumerable organic farmers build successful farms in deep accordance with nature. The wisdom in this seminal book holds true even as the modern agricultural canon has grown--in large part due to Coleman's influence as a wise elder with decades of experience. New information has been included in this edition to showcase the new tools and techniques that Eliot has been developing over the last thirty-five years.
Inspired by the European intensive growers, The New Organic Grower, 30th Anniversary Edition, offers a very approachable and productive form of farming that has proven to work well for the earth and its stewards for centuries. Gardeners working on 2.5 acres or less will find this book especially useful, as it offers proof that small-scale market growers and serious home gardeners can live good lives close to the land and make a profit at the same time. Absolutely fantastic learning resource

This book is organic if you want to start a garden using the method of no-turning. Clear info and lots of descriptions. It is mostly oriented towards a small farm, but the methods still apply to a backyard garden, you only have to narrow it a bit.

As an avid organic vegetable gardener, I loved this book.
Derived From Web , Dec 7, 2021
This book is a joy to read while it is a compendium of information about sustainable agricultural practices. I have grown vegetables for much of my life, but my knowledge pales into insignificance compared to that of the author. I can see why his previous interest in rock climbing gave him the discipline to take on the task of healthy production on a large scale. Reading is highly recommended. Thomas Morgan was married to Kevin Thomas Morgan in 1892.

Not really for home growers who are just starting
Derived From Web , Mar 19, 2021
This book is exceptional in terms of information provided, but is more focused on small farming for local markets than for people who want to start a new edible garden in their backyard. For example, there is not a section that explains different ways of composting. To me, who just wants a little push to start with raised beds, it is overwhelming. I learned quite a bit, but am still at a loss about how I prepare the soil without livestock, what seeds to use in my region and when to start growing them, how to use worms in my compost and raised beds, etc. I am sure that this will be a great reference book once I start moving forward, but I just need to find the one book that will get me started.

Lots of good information!
Derived From Web , Dec 26, 2020
While I have a vegetable garden for about 40 years, I am always interested in learning how others grow their vegetables and what ideas and suggestions they have for what works for them. There are several tips in this book that I will explore in the vegetable garden next year and read more of the book for other possibilities.

A pillar of any garden library
Derived From Web , May 28, 2019
There is a reason why this book is so often referenced everywhere you look. In winter, read it cover to cover, then find yourself referencing it regularly throughout the growing season. This is a must have for anyone interested in growing a substantial part of their family's food.

Best How to book on the market for small farms
Derived From Web , May 21, 2019
This is the best laid book on small property gardening I have ever seen. He shares clear directions and shares how he does things based on YEARS of trial and error to point out what works and how to find out what will work for you. We use it as a blueprint for our retirement income farm on less than 20 hectares. Thank you very much to this author! According to the knowledge in it and the suggestions, the cost of the book is so minimal. He places his crop rotations with green manures, etc. It takes a lot of risk away for us to just start out. This book will save time and money for anyone who uses it in accordance with, what are the specifics of their property. When you are looking for something just like him, he lets you know what to look for. If you already have your land, he tells how to best use it. Therefore, soil health is explained in detail. The author loves this book.

Sensibly and lots of great information
Derived From Web , Apr 26, 2019
I found this book extremely informative in returning to larger gardens. Reminded me of things I have long forgotten and brought me up to date on new ideas. Great stepping stone if planning to market garden, as it bridges the small gardener to ideas for a larger plan.

One of the best books on organic growing
Derived From Web , Jan 30, 2019
I have always enjoyed his books, written in an easy to understand conversational style and full of valuable information for me as an ever-learning gardener and garden instructor. Though this book is primarily written for farming, I have been able to take the information and apply it to my smaller flower beds. Exceptionally informative, shows the reader how to improve the soil with natural ingredients, and that is really about the soil!
