Gorgeous and enchanting! My 6-year-old is mesmerized
The illustrations are beautiful and leave you lingering for a long time on each page to take in every detail. My daughters adore this book, with my 6-year-old especially asking to start it again as soon as we get to the end.

Lovely artwork, charming story. Parents appreciated this gift
Holding bought this as a gift for a two-year-old family friend in the hopes that he would grow into it. In fact, he loved her and after a few visits, was reading through various animals. His parents were amazed by the artwork and appreciated the creativity and change of pace from typical children's books. It may be some time before he comprehends the story completely, but for now it is a book that entertained the adults and was a happy distraction for the little guy.

   Sweet story
I have several books by these brother - illustrators, so that I like their style. This particular story is sweet, but it leaves many questions unanswered, and not like in a thought-provoking intentional kind of way. I purchased it as a Christmas gift for an arborist.

   Talented Illustrators
The story line of the mystery expected from the title and the inside cover is great... but there is really no depth or moral to the story. With illustrations, this exquisite I expected a better read aloud. Nevertheless, I will purchase more of their books because I love exposing my children to their beautiful illustrations so much! I 'll definitely try to read these again to see if they become more interested.

Can't go wrong with the Fan Brothers
Mostly we've seen them illustrate, but this one they authored as well. If you haven 't heard of them yet, check out their other works as well. We recommend it highly for 2 years and up.

   Compelling and well written text.
This is a good children's book about mysterious overnight topiary masterpieces that pop up in a neighborhood creating opportunities to connect with neighbors. I have read hundreds and hundreds of children's books, and I am becoming more picker about what I like. It is the right combination of a well written story with equally compelling images and a sense of imagination and surprise. I highly recommend '' this book.

   Beautiful Book
Purchased this to read to my pre-school class. Of course, I also do! The pictures are the story of the night gardener and trim the trees into beautiful shapes. The community can 't figure out how this happens... because it happens all night. Every morning they wake up and discover a new tree. The seasons change and the trees change too. The night gardener leaves, but the gardening isn 't done yet!

Exquisite Illustrations and a Lovely Story Make This Book One to Buy for and Read to Your Child or Grandchild ...
The Night Gardener by Eric and Terry Fan is a teenage treat for visual and literary readers, and also for their parents and grandparents. Matthew awakens to find the first of many topiary sculptures on Grimloch Lane. When the nights turn and to the delight of the residents of Grimloch Lane, someone creates more sculptures. William stays awake to discover the identity of the sculpture and catches the night gardener who invites William to join him. The delicate illustrations scattered throughout The Night Gardener are works of art. The soft colors and detailed drawings emphasize the night-active activities of The Night Gardener and William. Illustrations have depth and dimension, characteristics not often found in many current books aimed at children. Only on the finals are more saturated colors used to display the joy that view the topiaries as they feel the. The night gardener is certain to become a classic and is definitely a 5-star book.

   Great Illustrations, lackluster story telling
This is a book with underdone illustrations and an amazing story. My 6 year old said at the end, That's it? '' There's quite a bit of one to infer from the illustrations that is not spelled out in the story, so my 3 year old also looked confused at the end. They are imaginative artful children who sit and listen and think while we read to them. But the story also jumps from the main character being a kid to being the night gardner and a teenager grown up. That's what confused my children, my son was like , but what did he did after he was a kid and before he was a good night gardner ''. Like he wanted to add more to the story. I don 't mind books that lead to children having questions, that is good for them. But it was like a page turn and you have a time leap and it ended abruptly.
