Book Overview

A School Library Journal Best Graphic Novel of 2019

Sabrina the Teenage Witch meets Roller Girl in this hilarious, one-of-a-kind graphic novel about a half-witch who has just discovered the truth about herself, her family, and her town and is doing her best to survive middle school now that she knows everything

Magic is harder than it looks.

Thirteen-year-old Moth Hush loves all things witchy. But she's about to discover that witches aren't just the stuff of movies, books, and spooky stories. When some eighth-grade bullies try to ruin her Halloween, something really strange happens. It turns out that Founder's Bluff, Massachusetts, has a centuries-old history of witch drama. And, surprise: Moth's family is at the center of it all When Moth's new powers show up, things get totally out-of-control. She meets a talking cat, falls into an enchanted diary, and unlocks a hidden witch world. Secrets surface from generations past as Moth unravels the complicated legacy at the heart of her town, her family, and herself.

In this spellbinding graphic novel debut, Emma Steinkellner spins a story packed with humor and heart about the weird and wonderful adventures of a witch-in-progress.

I love graphic novels and I expected to like this one more than I did
After a few Goofballs started easing her, weird things started happening. Turns out that she was a witch. And she could not have been more excited! Her mom claimed that witchery was too complicated, but how can a witch suck?It have cool illustrations? The history of the place was a little dull. Too much text made it hard to read and pay attention to. I like it when the pictures tell the story, I love graphic novels and I expected more than I did.

   ADORABLE book, must read
The book itself would give 55 stars, but the one star off is because my first try with this book and it came super busted. Normally, when I buy a brand new book, I expect it to look new, not sure what Amazon is shipping to lately, but I have to send MANY damaged books back for exchanges. Back to the book, I highly recommend highly. It was an adorable book that would appeal to most ages.

   Pretty Okay
It is good to have. The art style is modern, story is interesting on making witch hunt trials and modern day connected with a timeless dimension called Hecate. What fell out of favor was the final chapter with Mayor Kramer being this sudden villain and his previous family coming out of nowhere was sudden and rushed without too much explanation. It was not too bad, though could have done better. Great book with great characters, mainly the main characters, since the side characters are often shoehorned in sometimes and offer no development. Its 45 stars from me.

   8yo daughter LOVED this book!
I got this book for my daughter because another book I was looking for was BOGO 12 off. She read it in maybe 2-3 days, but only because I asked her to slow down.

   Great book
My daughter wanted to write a review because it is the first graphic novel of the authors. She said that she loved the book and hopes that there is more to come!

One of the BEST graphic novels for young girls
She has almost everything suitable for 9 year olds. She is constantly asking if there are sequels.

   Simply Magically Fun Read
This was a very cute book and worth every penny for sure. The events are predictable at times though and seem to be like many a play off other movies and books, but for sure it is worth having and reading. It is magical! I hope we get more books like this.

   An OUTSTANDING Witch
This is a beautifully written and exceptionally illustrated book that I would have read until it fell apart when I was Moth's age. Buying multiple copies for my classroom because I expect my students to do the same!
