The Penderwicks At Last
Book Overview
This Description may be from another edition of this product.
The finale you've all been waiting for: The Penderwicks at Last is the final, flawless installment in the modern classic series from National Book Award winner and New York Times bestselling author Jeanne Birdsall
Nine years, five older siblings, a few beloved dogs, and an endless array of adventures--these are the things that have shaped Lydia's journey since readers first met her in The Penderwicks in Spring. Now it's summertime, and eleven-year-old Lydia is dancing at the bus stop, waiting for big sister Batty to get home from college. This is a very important dance and a very important wait because the two youngest sisters are about to arrive home to find out that the Penderwicks will all be returning to Arundel this summer, the place where it all began. And better still is the occasion: a good old-fashioned, homemade-by-Penderwicks wedding. Bursting with heart and brimming with charm, this is a joyful, hilarious ode to the family we love best. And oh my MOPS--Meeting of Penderwick Siblings--does Jeanne Birdsall's The Penderwicks at Last crescendo to one perfect Penderwick finale.- This item: The Penderwicks At Last$4.39

depressing
Derived From Web , Feb 9, 2021
im an eleven year old who fell in love with this series and was excited to read this last one, but what a disappointment! In the Penderwicks in spring, she was kind of funny and cute, but should not get the attention. What also happened to Skye and Jeffery?!? They went in two different directions! What about the original four? and ben ''. The adventure did you go? i loved the other books, but birds in this one did not do well. Jeanne is a good try for all birds.

Looks like a good story
Derived From Web , Aug 24, 2020
I feel like reading this book again. I read a lot of one-star reviews saying that the sisters did not end up with who they should have been with, and there was really just no plot. I haven 't read it, sure, but I don 't think you could count it as bad. Sometimes you get just tired of things, like I write occasional stories, and when they start to get long, I start to get tired of writing it and losing the spark of it all. This can also happen with many authors. I believe that Birdsall was doing her best to get this book published. And some of you really forget that this book is written from the author's perspective so that this is what is supposed to happen, and the author must have a good reason for it. But now I'm going to save the book for later.

It missed the climax
Derived From Web , May 21, 2020
I have read all the Penderwicks books and have always enjoyed reading them. I was greatly disappointed, however, with this book. It seems to have sped quite a bit through the stories and even left out what I thought would be the climax of the story. Besides Lydia and maybe a few others, all characters had almost no involvement in the story. It was at best monotonous and in the end a poorly written book.

Best book series and excellent finale book
Derived From Web , Jan 30, 2020
After buying the boxed set of The Penderwicks for my 10 - year old granddaughter, who had read every other young reader series, I was her favorite person. When we spoke, she told me the latest adventures in each of the books. This Christmas she put Penderwicks At Last on her list and in the 37 years as a mom and 13 years as a Grammy this got the biggest reaction of any gift ever given! I 'd say that speaks volumes for this book and the previous books in the series!

Best Book Ever!
Derived From Web , Jan 15, 2020
I love the humor that Lydia creates from time to time, and I love her peppy personality. I also love the part where Lydia thinks Skye, her elder sister, was always light hearted. She was not rude, but she was not either concerned about manners. I also like the process of how Lydia and Alice came to be good friends. It just didn 't make my heart leap like other parts. But in all, this is the best book I ever read!

Delightful if a bit too fairy-tale-like
Derived From Web , Sep 12, 2019
We were sad to see the Penderwicks end. Between me reading out loud at bedtime and my daughter reading on her own, we read the whole series in two months and enjoyed it greatly. Like the others, this last installment manages to be fun and spirited, somehow nostalgic to all that is great about childhood and to discuss real-life concerns relevant to all ages without being too heavy handed, depressing or “inappropriate †for an 8 year old. The only two things I did not like the character Mrs Tifton went too far, and there was a little too much for my liking of a Cinderella-like over-the-top romantic destiny flair to this one, even more than with the others. It is like Ms Birdsall putting on a face of modernity and practicality, but the fairy tale is only a little deeper on the surface.

Disappointed
Derived From Web , Jun 9, 2019
It is as if the characters you know all have changed completely and they have the same names, but are different people. It was so disappointing. My daughters and I screamed and wept in disappointment and frustration. This one is written, but skips all the rest.

Almost as charming as the rest of the series, but not quite
Derived From Web , May 3, 2019
I'm giving you a spoiler . I can not explain why I can not give it five stars otherwise. You have been warned. I really want to adore this book as much as I do the others, but I have to admit that I miss Batty as the youngest. They’re all grown up and there is just too much Lydia and not enough of the others. Definitely not enough for Jeffrey. I love Alice, and it is wonderful to be back in Arundel, but to go through the whole process leading up to the wedding and not take us there? I was so disappointed ''. I wanted to see the moment when Batty and Jeffrey realize that they are in love and they turn Arundel into a B and B. I feel like it is all icing and no cake. It is written beautifully. It is charming. But it is not as good as the others.

MEH?
Derived From Web , Dec 9, 2018
It did not feel natural, as did the others. The Penderwick parents were only briefly in it, so briefly. They seemed to provide an anchor that this book sorely needed ; it was all over the place. This is so disappointing, especially because it is the last of the Penderwicks.

Boring
Derived From Web , Sep 24, 2018
I loved the other books by Penderwick in the series. This was a very boring disappointment-very big. There was no action, no excitement to the story, nothing to move me forward in the story. I even had a hard time finishing the book. Sorry-but I don 't recommend this series ; the others in the series are wonderful.
