Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

With magical animals, science, mystery, and adventure -- the series Zoey and Sassafras has something for everyone Easy-to-read language and illustrations on nearly every page make this series perfect for a wide range of ages.

In the fifth book, an old friend visits Zoey at the barn with a mysterious glowing. . . seed pod? Zoey, Sassafras, and Pip must work together to discover what this mysterious rare magical plant needs to grow before all the seeds crumble to purple dust

Each story in the Zoey and Sassafras series features a new magical animal with a problem that must be solved using science. There isn't a set formula for each book; Zoey sometimes needs to run experiments, while other times she needs to investigate a mystery, and yet other times she needs to do research. Zoey models how to keep a science journal through her handwritten entries in each story. Each story is complete with a glossary of the kid-friendly definitions for scientific terms used. The series highlights child-led inquiry science and the topics covered align with both Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards.

   My granddaughter loves this series
I have an 11 year old granddaughter who reads at about a 3rd-4th grade level. It is hard to find books that are easy to read for her to find, but not too immature for her. She really loved the first in the series and has asked one by one to order another.

   Love this series!
My six-year-old twins and I love this series! We couldn 't find this one at the library, so we had to buy it! Fair price and we will definitely come back to them over and over again.

Great book, part of a series.
Great scientific concepts and experiment methods are involved. Family, gender and race underlying messages are very positive. Girl of color transforms scientific things into beautiful things. Both my 3 year old granddaughter and my 10 year old grandson loved having this read to them. Each book has a glossary at the end, which reinforces the meanings of scientific words and new terms. Finally, I hope there are more books in the series than the 7 books I have now.

This is the cutest aloud book and great for elementary school children to read on their own.

Another vibrant story about problem-solving featuring one of our favorite fictional characters
A few weeks ago we finally got around to reading this book and I think my children liked it as much as I did. What I liked the best about it was how the author took us through the trial and error of Zoe's experiment in a fun way. My children enjoyed the characters and seeing a normal child as an effective problem solver. When we read Zoe and Sassafras, they always ask for experiments, but after reading the latest book in the series, they really wanted to garden and see things grow.
