brimming with Rilke's extremely fine stuff. The translation is a little smooth
Derived From Web , Feb 8, 2022
This is a large book with a lot of fine stuff. The translation is easy to understand. Robert Bly gives Rilke a blocky, terse feeling that brings out the bluntness of the man's visions, that seem veryliteral next to the translation. I think this one is a little too flowery for readers. I already knew that some of the poems sounded less powerful. It seems that the translation of the poem is " things, not everything that is or All the world's entirety." Snow is closer to true form because I hear Stephen Mitchell really runs away with Rilke.

No need to say more except this is a good translation, the poems are in turns poignant
Derived From Web , Feb 8, 2022
The questions Amazon pops up when I go to review a book are silly. For heaven's sake, it is Rilke. The poems are in turns poignant, deeply spiritual, insightful, and exquisitely expressed, and they are in this translation.

Bilingual edition. Translation by E. Snow
Derived From Web , Feb 8, 2022
I regret not being determined enough and learning German beyond a beginner's level, but I will never be able to read Rilke in its original form. Being told Snow's translation is the best English translation, I searched for it. I am glad that the advice was not just a translation but also poetry. There is a kind of translation that balances from and from the original. The benefit of enclosing the original is to give one a good sense of the original flow of spoken word.

This edition isn't shoddy
Derived From Web , Feb 8, 2022
There are great translations and a good collection of them. It is true that great publishers like FSG no longer use cloth to cover their books, as in clothbound. cardboard is cheap, unpleasant to hold and less durable than cloth bound, so they all use it now. It has made me reduce the number of books I buy. The glossy cover protects you from the rough paper in the paperback version of this.

Awaiting paperback...
Derived From Web , Feb 8, 2022
It is a shame that the publisher is asking so much for this book since I was very happy to find this edition while browsing through the bookstore. Listen to the previous reviews. They are not constructed well. The poetrytranslations are. Wait for the book. If you pay less for a book that will not last, it will go to Mr. I apologize for the snow.

Watch out if you're buying this book

I bought a copy for $50 and it was used. The book is marked up and smells like cheap cologne. Vendors on this website will sell you used merchandise and tell you it's new.
