Great modern fantasy

Harry Potter but darker, and instead of wizards in England it's a fantasy setting inspired by Chinese dynasties and political conflicts. The protagonist Rin makes for an engaging story because she's an underdog who actively goes to great lengths to get what she wants even if everything is against her. If that sounds good to you, you'll probably enjoy this.
