Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

This new edition replaces both The Pursuit of Holiness (ISBN 9781576839324) and the study guide (ISBN 9781576839881) by combining both resources into one volume

Be holy, for I am holy, commands God. But holiness is something that is often missed in the Christian's daily life. According to Navigator author Jerry Bridges, that's because we're not exactly sure what our part in holiness is. In The Pursuit of Holiness, he helps us see clearly just what we should rely on God to do--and what we should take responsibility for ourselves. As you deepen your relationship with God, learn more about His character, and understand the Holy Spirit's role in holiness, your spiritual growth will mature.

The included study guide contains 12 lessons.

Without holiness no man will see the Lord!
The book brings many practical points to the Christian. The book is written in a direct and direct fashion, exhorting us to learn more from the Word of God and pursue holiness. He wrote in a way that seemed to be talking directly to us, reminding us of the truth we find in the Bible. This book is a book to be read and reread during a lifetime. A great book, Gillian.
A classic read for every Believer
But the question is how can sinful people possibly be holy? He says we are called to be holy, to be set apart, to stand for Godliness in a world that is rapidly decaying into hedonistic, sin-filled, sin-driven lifestyles. In The Whole Consecrated Life of Saint John Paul, Bridges tackles the question and the nuances of scriptural holiness, and practical holiness. It dovetails with great works of saints who have gone before, such as Tozer and Murray.
A thoughtful delineation of Biblical Holiness
This book is dynamite, and I heartily recommend it to all Christian believers serious about holiness. It's an abridgement of JC Ryle's Holiness, which is also an excellent text. What makes this book so appealing is that it does not wax poetical about the virtues of holiness, but outlines the Biblical understanding of it, including debunking aberrant doctrines like higher life theology, he said. Anyone who has been persuaded by the Charismatic or Holiness movements should give this book an honest read, Raymond said.
There are so many salient points about our pursuit of holiness
It was purchased for a bible study. I gave it to a friend I work with and they listened to it on their way to work. It is not a replacement for your time in God's Word but it is very good at helping you understand many of the principals and concepts taught in the new testament.
   The Pursuit of Holiness
I was absolutely blown away by the first chapter, which was a total blast of dynamite. I think the Beatles were so enlightend and inspired. It has been a long time since I read a book made me weep and simply want to worship God, he wrote. It made me see the Holiness of God in a way that showed me anything I do for Him will never touch what he has already done for me, he said. I wanted to cry, Holy, Lord is the God of host, he said.
I believe this book was a really important step in me becoming a Christian. Before reading the book, I thought it was a Christian book meant to be a good person. I thought the book might give me some help with that, Mr. Goin said. But instead it showed me the real demands of God's law, that I had no chance of ever keeping, and so drove me to God's grace and then showed me some practical ways to live a transformed life by God's strength not my own, he said.
   Simply Classic - and Practical
It is not only God's will for us to be holy but also His command to do so. He urged the congregation to "avoid complacency" and to "actively pursue putting off our sin." And although we are blessed with the outcome of victory in our own lives by this, even more important is that our obedience brings glory to God, he said. This book is full of practical examples and practical applications for many areas of holiness that we can walk in obedience. This classic is short and easy to read, or to listen to. You are truly blessed. I reviewed this audiobook by appointment only with the Christian Audio Reviewers Program.
   Practical Advice
Only a few weeks into the book, I am already very impressed with it. Jerry Bridges uses lots of Scripture to show us why we must live holy lives, what it means to live holy lives, and how to actually do it. The book offers advice for fighting temptation and Satan's attacks on our minds and our practical wills. The book was written for people who struggle with big sins. It also touches on the little sins we all struggle with prideful, judgmental, and even half-truths. I encourage others to read this book.
   Great Book
In his other books, Bridges takes the subject of holiness and breaks it down so that it is clearly and more understandable. Mr. Bridges says that for a Christian Holiness, marriage is not an option. A great book.
Great for a Bible Study group....
Second, I have taught this book twice. I have been challenged in my Christian walk. The accompanying study with scriptural references and thought-provoking study questions makes this relevant for both new and mature believers. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, Mr. Bolten said. We are called to live holy lives, he wrote. The book is a beautiful offering of spiritual guidance for those who seek holiness.
