   Perfect
My son does not love his reading homework the way he used to. This is the best known picture of Los Angeles. Rather than poetry, poetry has revived his interest! He is 8 '' very bright, math - homework, no problem, he could do that all day long... but, as we all know, reading is also important. I tell him that we read to learn because we learn to read to read later. This book is a fantastic start to a wonderful group of the poets. Each level gives him a new theme. To think of something new, something new must be considered.

Pay attention to the recommended age range, 5-11
It really pays to have a poet select the material from a publisher with the resources of Random House. I usually buy a poetry collection as a first- or second Christmas present for my many grandnieces and nephews. I failed to read the advice in my headline probably because I did not read the PW recommendation all the way through. I will probably select another book for the intended recipient this year and save this one to give to a first grader about a book about a first grader.

Enjoyable for the kids and parents
I have two boys, they both enjoyed reading this poetry to them. I give credit to the writers and editors for selecting these poems. They are funny, easy to animate while reading, and they caught the attention of my little boys just as well or better than their bedtime stories. The vocabulary is not simple and I liked that a lot. From year 1 through 5, we enjoyed them. After an inspired rendition of the Boogie man, I had to spend some time lightening them up.

great poetry book *funny for the kids*
I had this book of poetry when I was a little girl and my boys now love it. If you are looking for a good poetry book, this is it. The money is worth it!

   Yes, just buy it.
I checked this book from the library so that I could get my newborn started on hearing poetry while feeding with good Ol' Mom. I liked it so much that I bought it for my 6 year old nephew who is actually old enough to understand most of it. It is a really nice mixture of children's poems. Some are short and some are long. Many are quite serious, but some are more thoughtful and silly. It is divided into different themes that explore city living, seasons, home, animals and a few others. There are also plenty of illustrations. I look forward to buying another copy and having it as a teen for our daughter.

I looked forward to receiving this book so much as I purchased it for a young friend who aspires to be a poet. When I was looking for exactly the right product, I looked at many and decided to buy this copy of the Random House Book of Poetry for Children by Jack Prelutsky. The figure and colors are intriguing and actually invite the prospective reader of any age to come in. The quality of paper used in the production of the book is excellent, so that this volume will have a long life of repeated turns of pages. Of course, I read through the book enjoying the poems and noting that the choices were entertaining for all ages. I know that if another young poet comes along, I will not have to search again - this is the ideal gift. Note : My new friend loves her young book!

   So-so
I was very surprised at this book by Random House. I found the vast majority of the poems when I looked through the book. Probably only about 5% of the poems are ones I have seen before, and I took a college literature course for children and taught young children years ago, so I have some experience in this area. Together with this, the illustrations are nothing to rave about if you even notice them at all.

Massive Collection of Loveable Poetry for Children
Though this was almost 40 years ago published, these selections still resonate with my children today, making them smile and often even laugh. Your children are broken into sections and are bound to find the poems they love here.

   For Elementary Aged Children
I bought this mistakenly thinking that it was an old favorite. It is a beautiful book but the poetry is meant for an older child.
