Great story for talking about bullying and sharing
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
This is a great story to share with a classroom full of children, or one on one with your child. It can open a dialogue about sharing and bullying, the report says.

Wow, what fun

I used it for character traits. The students could think of several people that might fit each of the six main characters in the story.

A great book with great message
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
I am very happy to be asked to review The Recess Queen, Simon said. It was a present from my wife that day, to a coworker who was being bullied at school. Their mother, reading the book to them, read it to their younger sister. It was a blast, said Blair, who played with George Michael. The boys asked to have read over and over again. It didn't take too many times for her kindergartner to get it and make the connection between mean Jean and the individual who was bullying her. I recommend this book to my daughter who leads anti-bullying programs in the local schools through a mental health agency. The illustrations were so appealing and the rhyming words were so good. A wonderful book.

Kindergarten

My kids absolutely loved it, said Blair. Out of several books read by children about school and behavior, this one was their favorite. Funny, great use of vocabulary, and I planned an entire week of lessons around this story, he said.

GREAT for teaching about bullying and standing up
Derived From Web , Mar 12, 2021
I've had students who LOVED the book. I would highly recommend it for any K-3 teacher to teach about standing up for yourself, being your own person, and how kindness can go a long way, even with the meanest of folks, said Dr. Booher. I used it as a read aloud.

I was looking for something a little different
Derived From Web , Sep 20, 2020
Thanks for the illustration. Good rhythm to the words, Mr. Rule told us. Do not appreciate the plot point of the bully just needs a friend, Raymond said. It's just that sometimes the truth is told. We need more books on how to deal with bullies that this method doesn't work on, Graham said.

A Great Book for Kids
Derived From Web , Aug 25, 2019
My 2nd graders loved reading about Jean and the rest of the gang. The author uses the language that works well with my brain. The book sparked great conversations in the classroom about how we should treat each other and whether or not they would have handled Mean Jean the way Katie Sue did. It's a great book for any early childhood-elementary school teacher to read at the beginning of the year.

I had a girl in my class who was just like this girl and when I read it a couple kids said, "hey! That's like _____! They could really relate and used the characters names to say "Don't be like Jean!"

Helpful
Derived From Web , Apr 21, 2017
My daughter read this book at school and she identified so much with the story that she asked me to buy a copy for home. She has had a lot of difficulty with the other kids at school and this book helped her identify some of her feelings about it. We are using it to discuss things that happen at school and I am going to have her write her own version of what happened using this book as a guide. 0 1462228 1562216 In this book, we are going to have her write her own version of what happened, using this book as a guide.
