Book Overview

Revitalize your garden--and go beyond compost--by making your own biologically diverse inoculants and mineral-rich amendments using leaf mold, weeds, eggshells, bones, and other materials available for little or no cost

In The Regenerative Grower's Guide to Garden Amendments, experimental gardener and author Nigel Palmer provides practical, detailed instructions that are accessible to every grower who wants to achieve a truly sustainable garden ecosystem--all while enjoying better results at a fraction of the cost of commercial fertilizer products. These recipes go beyond fertilizer replacement, resulting in greater soil biological activity and mineral availability. They also increase pest and disease resistance, yields, and nutrient density.

Recipes include:

  • Extracting nutrients from plant residues using simple rainwater techniques
  • Extracting minerals from bones and shells using vinegar
  • Fermenting plant juices and fish
  • Culturing indigenous microorganisms (IMO)

Inspired by the work of many innovative traditional agricultural pioneers, especially Cho Ju-Young (founder of the Korean Natural Farming method), The Regenerative Grower's Guide to Garden Amendments also includes a primer on plant-soil interaction, instructions for conducting a soil test, Read More chevron_right

JUST WHAT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR
The book, with pictures by Robert Penndo, is worth the price of the entire book. I highly recommend this book to all my gardening buddies.

Reads like a scientific journal or academic text. Not very accessible to people without a doctorate.
If you understand the book, you can use it for free. If you have a doctorate in botany, you'll probably find it useful. Even with a background in botany, I doubt I'll be able to discern what it is. It would be nice if it was written to be more accessible to people.

Great Resource for Improving Your Soil and Your Vegetable Yield!
I learned of this book while watching YouTube videos of Huw Richards and other organic gardening gurus. This book is an amazing resource, not only educational, but provides practical methods for improving soil and plant health.

Incredible Gardening wisdom you won’t find elsewhere!
A British botanist, Nigel Palmer, is a genius with plants. He was a blessing to have been able to take a year long class taught by him and to witness his methods in action, and then apply them to my own massive food garden and permaculture plantings. Rolfe's techniques are revolutionizing the way we think about energy, founded in science and grounded in the laws of nature. This isn't the same old gardening advice with a new cover and a catchy name, Raymond said. This will change the way you see and care for your plants for life. The rave reviews from well respected gurus of the holistic permaculturefermentation world oughta speak volumes, but if that wasn't enough to convince you, I hope you'll take my word for it and give Nigel's book a whirl. Don't judge a book by its cover, Graham said.
