Book Overview

In a rainbow-colored station wagon that smelled like a real car, the relatives came. When they arrived, they hugged and hugged from the kitchen to the front room. All summer they tended the garden and ate up all the strawberries and melons. They plucked banjos and strummed guitars.
When they finally had to leave, they were sad, but not for long. They all knew they would be together next summer.

   Family Reunions
I bought this book for my two grandkids because they have so many paternal cousins. This is just a cute story of a family that travels a great distance to see extended family members they have not seen in a while.

Good and Thought Provoking for Kids
For my five-year-old, this book was good. This summer, her cousins came to visit us from the south. This book gave her the opportunity to answer some questions about their trip and better understand how special and important family visits are.

Family Fav. Lyrical Story with Engaging and beautiful illustrations
Beautiful, intriguing, entertaining, comical, and thoughtful illustrations accompany a lyrical story about a beautiful theme. I have been reading this with my children for 6 years -- we all adore it. They're now 12 and 9.

This is a great read for your elementary students! They will love to talk about themselves and their family members while sharing pictures. I have done this with my fourth and fifth year Language Arts classes and is a great readingwriting lesson.

A good and strange to understand our funny relatives. This book should be read by every family. It will, for sure, help us become better human beings.

Great memories of this book stayed with me well into my adult years, when I had to buy this book for my children and visitors to my house.

What a timely, yet classic story that brought me to tears given the current pandemic
With the shelter in place, we lining up “Mystery Readers” every day to read our young children at lunch time to video them a story. Recently one of these readers read her so well loved copy of this book that it was falling apart. I was in tears at the end, what a classic but timely story about relatives coming from afar to visit, staying awhile, and how joyously chaotic it was. I ordered a copy immediately for our library and we now read it often and talk about how joyous it will be when we see our relatives again.
