Not my cup of tea.

I bought this because I wanted to learn more about President Roosevelt, but it's written for someone who loves politics. I am not a fan of politics because I understand the current situation with our political system and how badly they have screwed up. I was looking for a book to relax me into bed, but this one reminded me of the problem we have with the current political system. That's Dang.

Don't be afraid of the size of the book. The early life of America's most fascinating president is a fascinating tale. I love biographies and history and this is my favorite of them all. I read all three books in the Edmund Morris Teddy Roosevelt trilogy after reading this book, and I'm thinking about doing it again. Edmund Morris has produced a biography that is both well researched and beautifully written to make it easy to read. All other non- fiction writers should aspire to read this book. Don't miss this experience, read this book.

Very detailed history of TR's rise.

It took me several months to complete this book, as I had to put it down for a while and come back to it later. I didn't want to spend 6 months to a year reading about TR alone, so I had part two and three of the biography to read. The book gives a lot of information about his early life and political career. TR tried a lot of things in his first 40 years. He was always trying something new and he had a lot of energy. The sequel biography will describe his presidency.

Edmund Morris's account of Theodore Roosevelt's inevitable journey that takes you from birth to the moment he learns he is president is one of the best books I have ever read. Through the details of the events recounted, the research is obvious. The book's description of Roosevelt's encounters with nature, the animal world and people of various background is what makes it worth reading. He is comfortable with his family as well as he is with the upper class society. He is as comfortable leading men to explore the western badlands of this country as he is leading them in the liberation of Cuba during the Spanish American war. Morris's book is just as close to watching a movie as any book you will ever read.
