Really disappointed

You are better than this John! Boring has inspired story lines as well as characters. And the subplot on immigrants in this country was not necessary illegally. In fact, it was inappropriate! If they had done the right legal process, there would not have been a problem! You ruined what I hoped would be a good read. One of my favorite writers remains one.

Not one of my Grisham favorites.

The story is a confusing one, albeit good at times. The characters are well developed, as always, with someone to love and someone to hate. The concept was very good, but 34 of the book became a bit muddy and only the worse from there. I've felt a lot of the detail that Grisham is known for was omitted from this book. Much is left out in the ending leaving the reader wondering... what happened on the road down the road? I am an avid fan of Peter Grisham and have read most of his books. Rooster Bar '' would place near the bottom of my favorite lists.

Uncomfortably Close to Real Life

Unlike most other reviewers here, I haven t read any other Grisham. As a member of the legal bar for nearly 40 years, I am not drawn to other fiction. Nevertheless, I have to say that the author writes with an accurate naturalistic brush about the seamier side of big city justice.

Law students on a mad romp through white-collar crime

A fascinating, funny and mad romp through law school scams and bank scams by 3 law students who couldn t finish their senior year, depressed by the suicide of a dear friend and classmate. I found the plot of Grisham ingenious from start to finish and found myself worrying about the kids'predicaments as I went to sleep. But I laughed out loud when they did and enjoyed immensely the book.

I TEND TO BE LEERY OF GRISHAM TOMES THAT IMPORTANTLY CONTINUE ITS PLACE IN A COURTROOM. HAVING READ ALL MR. GRISHAM 'S BOOKS, THE ONE 'S OUTSIDE A COURTROOM TEND TO BE HIS WEAKEST EFFORTS NOT WANTING TO GIVE AWAY SPOILERS I WILL ADMIT THAT WHILE NOT A LEGAL NOVEL IN THE STRICTEST SENSE, THE LEGAL OVERTONES OF MR. GRISHAM 'S LATEST MAKES IT MANAGEABLE AND A FUN READ. IF YOU ARE A FAN OF THE MAJORITY OF HIS EFFORTS, WELL WORTH YOUR TIME.

everybody ends up fine & dandy

I have read all his books and I continue to do so grudgingly... He repeats A LOT throughout his last couple of books, maybe just to add an additional 20 pages. Drags the story, goes into some nit-picky details and then ends at the end, after 300 pages, he has to hurry up with the ending, everybody ends up fine and dandy. The end is at the. PLUS : I would NOT fall for the same day delivery when the book comes out. Due to AMAZON's ridiculous delivery route, I didn 't receive my Roostter Bar until 2 days later. This is an example of a pretty accurate route for my delivery, available in Columbia or Greenville, SC. But no-it was roughly like Raleigh, NC, further north to ColumbiaGreenville, then somewhere else on the way, then when the AMAZON tracker said it had been delivered, it was STILL another day.

John Grisham writes some great novels, but this is not one of them

The characters are narcissistic, arrogant dishonest, morally bankrupt criminals who justify their dishonesty by outsmarting the system that cheated them. John Grisham's message is that this is how the youth of today think. Regardless the message, I found myself not caring about these characters.

Very disappointing, I have loved most of Grisham's books, but this one seemed to take on several juicy topics, including for-profit universities. ImmigrationDACA : Student-loan abuses are common. Sadly, the plot touched all of them without taking a deep dive, anywhere. The main characters were thinly drawn and less sympathetic than usual, although each of them had features that might have been worth fleshing out. I think the protagonists had tragic endings, but I would have preferred a clearly happy one, especially for the law school and the rapacious student loanees.

1st Grisham Book in Years I've Thoroughly Enjoyed

I was a big fan of John grisham's early works, but most of his books, I tried after the Runaway Jury, did not much for me. They either seem to lack heart or read like he had written himself into a corner and in the last chapter he would just jumble together a conclusion that wasn't very unsatisfying, but I really enjoyed this book. I could see the dilemmas of the main characters and while they do make some major mistakes, I could understand how someone could choose these options. Despite the main flaws of the characters, you want them to win. The ending may have been a little bit rushed, but I felt it was a fitting conclusion. I hope Mr Grisham continues in this style of pace in future works.

First, I 'd like to say that I am an avid Grisham fan. I have read everything he has written and I have always enjoyed them. The Rooster Bar was, however, very disappointing in so many ways. The first three-fourths of the book was only depressing and slightly boring. Two of the three main characters were borderline-repulsive and the third female character came as stupid and insulting to me as a female. Fortunately, there was a lot of unnecessary repetition around the theme. I fought through this reading truly difficult ''. Was it? Mr Grisham, what were you thinking?
