From the New York Times bestselling author of All the Missing Girls and The Perfect Stranger comes a captivating psychological thriller about a girl who must face her darkest fears--but can she outrun the past?

Kelsey has lived most of her life in a shadow of suspicion, raised to see danger everywhere. Her mother hasn't set foot outside their front door in seventeen years, since she escaped from her kidnappers with nothing but her attacker's baby growing inside her--Kelsey.

Kelsey knows she's supposed to keep a low profile and stay off the grid for their protection, but that plan is shattered when her dramatic car accident and rescue by volunteer firefighter and classmate Ryan Baker sparks media coverage.

A few days later, she arrives home to find her mother missing. Now, to have a chance at a future, Kelsey will have to face her darkest fears. Because someone is coming for her. And the truth about the past may end up being the most dangerous thing of all.

   Not what I expected
I didn't expect this story to be from a young woman's point of view. She sets the story up well. It's not great literature, but it is engaging and tense. I was kept reading by her.
   A really good read!
I couldn't stop reading. It was different in so many ways that I loved it. A 17 year old girl and her mother live in a house that is a fortress, keeping out danger and imprisoning those inside. I will read more by this author, I highly recommend this one. She writes very well.
   Good and fast read
I didn't want to read this because YA isn't my favorite. I love Megan Miranda's writing and this story did not disappoint. I was pulled through till the end.
Slow Start/ not as good as her other titles
I am over 100 pages in and I am starting to like the mystery. I think it's still going to be good, even though it's not as good as All the Missing Girls or The Perfect Stranger, I'm hopeful that it will be. I'm going to stick with it even though it doesn't have all the twists and turns of her other titles.
Absolutely could not put it down!!
I know this is one of Miranda's older books. I like all of her books. This book was the best she has written. I found a stopping point after about 100 pages. I decided to just write one chapter and finished the book in 3 hours. It's a must read.
   I’ll read anything she writes!!!
This is the third book I have read by Megan Miranda and I am hooked. I love everything about her books. The way she ends things, the lack of predictability, and the twists and turns are just a few of the things she has. Absolutely great! It's!
   I LOVE this author
All the Missing Girls was the first book I read. I like this author a lot. All the missing girls or the perfect stranger' was not as mysterious as this book. But it was a good read.
   Great book!
A lot of the mystery thrillers I read follow the same story line. The book kept me on my toes as it had a great story to keep me moving through it. It was a new storyline. I have read another book by this author. Definitely recommended book to read. It's!
   Good read
This is the story of a mother and daughter living inside a fortress. After an accident, her mother disappears. There are dangerous men trying to get into her house. Overall a good beach read, it was a little anticlimactic at the end.
