A beautiful classic
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
As a child growing up in the 60's, this was my favorite book for children. One of my earliest vivid memories is having it read to me at a young age, one of my earliest childhood memories. I '' pictured myself as part of Peter's world and as his special friend. The use of patterns inspired me to cut scraps of fabric, wallpaper or whatever else I could find to make my own artwork. Of the many young children's books in our home, this is the only one I remember that had a child of color. Despite the fact that I knew only white people, it did not mean much to me at first. As I grew up and began to hear the subtle and overt racist language and remarks, I had a sense that something was wrong because I knew that Peter was just like me. I am grateful to whomever gave my family this book, for I believe that I would have processed those ugly remarks much differently if not for the snowy day. The delight I had in reading this book to my own children is immeasurable. I purchased two copies of the 50th Anniversary Edition for baby shower gifts.

Wow! Mr. Mr. Mr. Mr. Keats!! Keats!!! Hats off to you! Hats off to you!! Book choice for all children is excellent. I have loved this book for years! '' When I was given the opportunity to watch the video with my grandson last year, I had to search for the book and gift it to him! What a beautiful story! And simple, beautiful pictures. It is a classic for a reason, it is a classic. I purchase books for my beloved 5 year old grandson to gift him each month to him. This is such a heartwarming story and is worth the purchase many times over. I can not wait to listen to him buy it to me via FT. Read it! Your child will not be disappointed!

Not as presented

I watched this wonderful story on Amazon Prime and wanted to have a copy of the book. So I ordered the digital version for my Kindle, sat down to read it and found that at 57% of it went to a bonus about the author. Now this would have been a wonderful add-on. However, it was more disappointing than I can describe without the full story.

Incredible!

I am so blown away by the quality of this board book. I received it today and I will give it to my nephew as a gift and I am beyond impressed with it. Of course, Ezra Jack Keats is known for his storytelling through an urban lens and I thought this would be a great addition to the birthday boy's little library. But the size and durability of this book were better than expected. I highly recommend this for any toddler or pre-elementary school-aged child. I highly recommend it for any toddler or elementary school.

Terrible book.
Derived From Web , Dec 24, 2019
I ordered 3 of these one for my daughter and one for my niece and nephew each. I wish I didn 't. I am not sure why this book has such great reviews. There is no plot tied to the book. It is a kid walking outside and coming home. No fancy writing. No rhymes. The pictures are terrible. Why this is considered a timeless book '' in the reviews, beyond me. I gave it a three because it is a good book of strong size for little hands and is not too long, but generally a terrible book.

Wish it was more durable.

Cute story and vivid colors on the pages pages, however, the back cover has completely peeled off. For a board book for toddlers, I would have expected it to be better.

Let's make it political

I loved this book as a small child in the 1980s, and is still one of my favorites. I bought this book for many baby showers and 1st birthdays, especially for white kids. To me, it is vital for white children to learn that joy, wonder, disappointment and excitement are universal human emotions, that we share similar joys and disappointments, and that in its simplicity the artwork is astonishingly beautiful.

I love this timeless classic book and its story of a boy's adventures on the first day of the snow, so it made sense to buy the board book for my toddler to read to him during the snowy days here in Chicago! The story and the artwork has received the absolute most prestigious award for picture books for children, so my review can not possibly do the justice it deserves. I am not even going to try to do this. I will say that the quality of construction of the book is wonderful, it receives lots and lots of use from my toddler and is still in perfect condition. The author has several great books, my other favorite being Whistle for Willie, and the foundation he created does amazing work for children and reading.
