Nothing that I was not familiar with before, but a lot of good points. I recommend for anyone who wants to improve their career.

   Very approachable
I am one of those engineers that the author refers to who has an architect in his job title, but is not really what he would consider an architect. I wanted to see what is the job of an enterprise architect and the book delivers on it. I don 't think I have ever been in an organization that has had an architect of the kind he is describing. It seems like the organization would have to be pretty large to need one. It is an easy read and doesn 't get very technical. There is a lot of discussion about the social aspects of being an architect, how the role is perceived versus what it really should entail, etc.

Great book about EAs role in Digital Transformation
Well thought out, with helpful stories from a successful leader in the EA space. While much information could be found in the book with a search engine and enough time, the value of this book comes from its collection of insights into views of view and understanding tradeoffs that are critical for the contribution of EA to a successful digital transformation. The book is very useful to a skilled technician or technically focused architect who is transitioning to EA or an experienced architect who has dealt with changes brought on by digital transformation.

   Vast amount of valuable experience
The IT industry is full of books about Patters, Technics, technologies and processes. While these are all very useful and help you build your skills, you need an experience to make it stick together and be valuable. Gregor Hope shared a lot of his personal experience in a well organized and easy to consume way.

   Meh
I found little knowledge, though I do like the metaphor of the elevator and gained some helpful quotes on ESBs.

   Terribly Insightful
Not only is The Architect Elevator '' written with abstract and complex problems, organisational behaviour, technical disruption, bleeding edge technologies, resistance to change, human psychology... also a life time experience. It is like mixing O Reilly Thinking Fast and Slow with some Harvard Business books and the latest by Kahneman in Devops... all woven together by a seamless, coherent and fun narrative. If you are serious about your IT architect career and have already hit a glass ceiling after mastering your technical objects, this is the book that will carry you forward... and above!

I loved every single part of this book, not only Gregor has so many insights and direction for us architects who are part of the big companies that make the change to digital companies, but he is able to make it entertaining! Strongly recommended, a book that will be key at this turning point in the world of the big companies.
