   As a child growing up I was a big fan ...
I was taken aback when I read Babar to my son, I was a big fan of it as a child. Babar is elected king because he wears a suit and is civilized and his mother is killed on the first page.

   It is no longer written in cursive
I bought this as a gift for my 12 year old son, who had commented that he wished there were books written in cursive so that he could practice reading it. I remember when I was a child, I had a story that was all in cursive and I wanted to see if it was still out there. I was excited to find it and read reviews of others who like the same, so I ordered it immediately, but when it arrived, it was not in cursive anymore. I'm very disappointed that it has been changed for the modern schools. Even children want to learn and practice cursive.

   Colorful classic
Babar is a classic children's book. My children grew up loving these stories. I bought this to start my elder son's collection of books, as I passed on all of my books to the child who started his family first.

   Horrible translation, poor story for kids
I learned a lesson when I read a book to my child. I had no idea that Babar went shopping for clothes made him feel better. There is a strange story. The main issue to me is the way it is written, it reads as if it was translated from French to English by someone who didn't know how to speak English. Everything is in the present tense and it has no flow. Which is a weird way to tell a story. Babar went shopping with the old lady instead of a more natural sounding Babar. It is written in a way that makes it difficult to read. Do French have a normal past tense? I would not recommend this book to anyone. The story is not good and the translation issues are difficult to overcome. I will donate my copy.

   Weird book in retrospect
My mom read this to me when I was young. I don't understand why I didn't understand what she was reading at the time. I think it's weird, but I like the pictures. I think the pictures are what I liked as a kid. I wouldn't want a young child to read it because of the deaths of the mother. I wouldn't read Grimm's Fairy tales to a kid either.

   Babar is a great friend
I thought of this book the other day. When my daughter was small, I used to read it to her. It is easy. Life and death, friendship, civilization, celebration are some of the topics it talks about. You can show your kids everything in this book and the following books. These characters will never be forgotten.

   The Kids Loved It!
The book was in great condition and arrived in a timely fashion. The story of Babar was a hit with the kids in 2 pre- school classes, but some of the older children were upset to hear that Babar's mom was killed by a hunter. It wasn't included in a reading for the young ones, but explained to the older ones. Helping children understand the plight of elephants is a good way to do that. It was a great success!

   For a newly adopted little boy
I like the fact that the animal heroes have emotions as well. Their names are fun, the experiences they have are common ones, but in a silly style. The author paid some medical bills after writing this book. I think it's a great idea.

   Wonderfully and engagingly written
This is a picture of a child's book. This is the book that kicked off the Babar series. But- but- but! It's never on TV. In the first few pages, there is a hunter shooting and killing Barbar's mother. The book is so powerful because Babar discovers his independence! It can be hard for children with sensitive skin. I loved the book as a child, and I have read it to my son many times.
