A true classic with a timeless message

All the other bulls run, jump, and butt their heads together in fights. Ferdinand, on the other hand, would rather sit and smell the flowers. So what will happen when Ferdinand is picked for the bullfights in Madrid?

The Story of Ferdinand has inspired, enchanted, and provoked readers ever since it was first published in 1936 for its message of nonviolence and pacifism. In WI times, Adolf Hitler ordered the book burned in Nazi Germany, while Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Union, granted it privileged status as the only non-communist children's book allowed in Poland.

The preeminent leader of Indian nationalism and civil rights, Mahatma Gandhi--whose nonviolent and pacifistic practices went on to inspire Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr.--even called it his favorite book.

The story was adapted by Walt Disney into a short animated film entitled Ferdinand the Bull in 1938. Ferdinand the Bull won the 1938 Academy Award for Best Short Subject (Cartoons).

Abridged version...you're not getting a deal!
The story is a classic and it's great. This version is not clear when you buy it. That really annoyed me. You think you're getting a good deal, but you're not. You're getting a small amount of pages.

   Great Children’s Classic
It is exactly the same as when I was a little girl. The gentle side of a bull is shown in this story, which is a great read for children of all ages. My son is 6 months old and loves being read to, while my oldest niece is 8 years old. They haven't changed how the book looks over time. I loved it when I was a child and can now share it with my children.

   Arrived damaged
Love the story. Product arrived with a lot of deep scratches to the front and back covers. My kids will only contribute to more destruction, so I plan to keep this. I would definitely return if this had been a gift. I think I'm expecting too much when new products are sold by and shipped from Amazon.

   Best. Kids. Book. Ever.
Best. Kids. There is a book. Ever. This was read to me as a child. I just love it. Ferdinand likes to smell flowers and be chill. He doesn't want to be mean or fight, just relax and be happy. Ferdinand sits on a bee when a group of men come to Madrid to find bulls for a bullfight. They chose him because he got all snorty and crazy. He gets his happy ending after the bullfight is completely different than they expected. I love the illustrations and story in this book. I can say a lot of good things about it. I recommend the book to everyone. I haven't seen a movie in a while. There is a Disney cartoon from the 1950s or 1960s that is pretty much the book, animated and I recommend it.

One of my favorite books. Beautiful pictures and a great story. I buy it for my friends who are expecting babies. It has always had a special place in my heart because I got it when I was a kid.

I bought two books for myself and one for a charity event when I noticed they were on sale. The books arrived with no damage. The story is cute and meaningful to share with the kids.

A classic (must-have for all children) - Peace!
I watched the original Disney movie Ferdinand The Bull - 1938 on a BW TV set. My parents bought me the book that I loved. I bought the book as a present. I am not a fan of the new Disney animations that have every animal and character look the same, with big eyes. The drawings by Lawson show animals that are older. It's a classic and the details are charming. I think all children should see the original Disney movie. I am sure that Disney will offer their Disney version.

This was my favorite book when I was a child
When I was a child, this was my favorite book. My great grandson will know the story before he sees the movie because I am giving it to him.

Read the book instead of going to the movie
A classic children's book is The Story of Ferdinand. I bought the book for our nephew. He was upset about the violence in the movie about Ferdinand. His belief in kindness was restored by the original story. It's a shame that a movie would make a children's book into something bad.

   Good Literature
The story of Ferninand has always been a favorite of my children. The story line teaches kids that it is okay to be different and not everyone will agree with you. Every home library should have Ferdinand. The book is easy to read. My children learn to read from this book. A good place to start your young readers is with an easy to comprehend story line. The powerful message is not deterred by the simple words.
