The book was bought for a friend with special needs. Syndrome seems to play a role in the case. She asked for books, and we all gave her what she asked for. And, I recorded an audio read of the book to which she can follow along. Frida Kahlo's daughter, Claudia, said she was "100 percent behind" the exhibit.

The perfect gift for my niece

My mom, who makes care packages for my niece and nephew once a month, always includes a book. Normally, I'm in charge of acquiring the book. At the beginning of May, I was at a loss. It's easy getting a book for my nephew, who is five, but my niece, a ten-year-old, is a little more challenging. Ironically, I got Frida Kahlo because of the Frida Kahlo theme. It was a Cinco de Mayo Care Package, a bit of stretch, but, I figured a book on a well known Mexican artist was the best I could fine-tune thematically. I'm really pleased with the illustrations, the reading level is pretty good for her age. Visually, though, it's educational.
