With nearly 1,500 Broadway performances, six Tony Awards, more than three million albums sold, and five Academy Awards, The Sound of Music, based on the lives of Maria, the baron, and their singing children, is as familiar to most of us as our own family history. But much about the real-life woman and her family was left untold.
Here, Baroness Maria Augusta Trapp tells in her own beautiful, simple words the extraordinary story of her romance with the baron, their escape from Nazi-occupied Austria, and their life in America.
Now with photographs from the original edition.

I recommend it; just know that Maria didn't reveal her downside (who does!) Agathe sheds light in her book though

First read this book and then read Agathe of Trapp's biography. I still love the film and the film by Trapps. It is just that Maria paints a fuzzy warm picture. In direct contradiction to Agathe's take on things, Makes it sound like the children did not know what music was until she came with her guitar to them. Together with her mother and mother, Agathe said, there was a TON of music. They played several instruments and sang as a family. Trapp's captain was a sweet hearted man and father. On the other hand, Maria would have these volatile screams and then get over them quickly. From all the info I was able to get, there was a lot of good that truly happened in that family. But Maria was dominant and driven. They created together incredible music and it seems that they all loved doing it. They had her summer music camp for years... just amazing and wonderful.

An interesting saga.

It is amazing that Maria tells the story of her family, from the moment she comes into their lives, coming from the convent. At the same time, it is a very traditional and patriarchal setting, with the captain as the head of the family, Maria manages to make all the changes necessary for their survival, while being the one who holds together all the members of the Trap family singers. As religious as they are, their faith does not get fanatical though.

The Story of the Trapp Family Singers is a good book to relax and enjoy.

Ed, read the story of the Trapp family singers, he enjoyed very much the story. It is not like the film Sound of Music, it is much deeper in depth. A very interesting story of how the family really fled the Nazis. Maria also spoke about the additional children that George Walt had.

great book, especially for understanding the events of living happy and then having war and emigration interrupt
Derived From Web , May 24, 2022
This is a pale book that makes the sound of music wonderful in comparison. The Nazi threat is an amazing chapter... when they decide that God wills that they leave, the emotions are high and this comes through Maria's words. Excellent read for the WW2 period of history.

a wonderful book

It was remarkable to read the true story of a good family. The movie is great, but reading about all the family went through over the years-incredibly awesome. Where there is a will, there is a way. And we need to first seek His will.

Trapp Family Singers

I saw the sound of MUSIC when it came out in the movies and loved it. Kindle saw this book on Kindle. It was more detail and I thought it was quite humorous, as Marie told her story. I realize that the movies cut lots of details. I hope to visit Stowe, VT, where they settled. This reading would highly recommend.

Story of the Trapp Family Singers

I have loved the movie based on thrilled since I was a small child and is still one of my favorites now at 60. Finding this book to read about the rest of the story is a treasure. The depth of their Christian faith to get through the trials and hardships is a true inspiration for my daily annoyances. This book is a must read book.

Had to buy a second copy for my mother-in-law
Derived From Web , Jan 21, 2022
Well, I haven 't yet read it. But. . The movie, The Sound of Music, is loosely based on this same story. My wife has almost finished reading her copy and will be given to her. She keeps remarking how wonderful it is and required me to order a second copy to be delivered directly to my mother-in-law. A strong request and I consider it a rare endorsement indeed. So, a 5 star read right?

This book is very well written! Through her words, she paints an amazing picture of her homeland. Thus you can imagine yourself as one of the family. This has become one of my favorite biographies that I have ever read! I recommend this book not only for The Sound Of Music fans, but also for anyone who loves reading.

A Great Book for the Whole Family
Derived From Web , Apr 27, 2021
The author does a wonderful job of bringing the author into their lives. We read this aloud as a family of children 16 to 5 years old. I will admit that the 5 year old was listening on and off, but the rest of the kids loved it. If you ever wanted to know the great story behind the family that inspired the sound of music, this is a true read. It also gives you a little insight into what Austria was like during WWII. The author's Catholic faith plays a beautiful and significant role in the story.
