Book Overview

Discover what it would be like to travel through the four seasons in one day in this musical story based on the classical masterpiece The Four Seasons--push the button in each breathtaking scene to hear the vivid sound of an orchestra playing from Vivaldi's score.

Follow a little girl called Isabelle and her dog, Pickle, as they take on the adventure of a lifetime. As a sign of the changing seasons, Isabelle carries a little apple tree with her, and we see it bud, blossom, and lose its leaves. As you and your little one journey through the vibrant scenes illustrated by artist Jessica Courtney-Tickle, you will press the buttons to hear 10 excerpts from The Four Seasons violin concerti.

At the back of the book, find a short biography of the composer, Antonio Vivaldi, with details about his composition of The Four Seasons. Next to this, you can replay the musical excerpts and, for each of them, read a discussion of the instruments, rhythms, and musical techniques that make them so powerful. A glossary defines musical terms.

The Story Orchestra series brings classical music to life for children through gorgeously illustrated retellings of classic ballet, opera, and program music stories paired with 10-second sound clips of orchestras playing from their musical scores.    Stunning illustrations and beautiful music!
BEAUTIFUL!!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!! I love the story of a little girl and her puppy through the seasons, following a little girl and her puppy. The illustrations are beautiful, such that color and movement fills each page. The music of Vivaldi completes the picture, as each piece goes with the picture or mood of the season. There is information about each piece of Vivaldi's music in the back of the book, as well as a little quiz to see if the child can guess what season each piece of music goes with in the back of the book. This was a fun, little challenge that my son enjoyed. Pressing the music button sometimes was a little tricky while we were laying in bed reading, but that is my one and only minor complaint! My six-year-old son and I truly enjoyed this interactive story! ! !

This is the perfect children's book for little music lovers!
We are in love with this big and beautiful book and I can not say enough about it. My children love music, but have never gotten into classical music. That changed everything when we read this book. The back of the book with the Vocabpage had my children exploring music in this book to figure it out and now they ask to listen to other classical music and figure out that music. Now there is so much to learn and also to listen to and I am so excited. The artwork in this book is brilliant and fantastic and perfect for busy little minds. It is a joy to be reread the book and find things we missed before. I can not recommend this book enough. I've thought this is the perfect gift for any child!

   Manufacturer's note:
Note from the manufacturer : Please pull the white tab out of the back of the book before use. Sound buttons require a firm push in the exact location to work, which may be difficult for young children. All sound clips are 10 second long.

   Wonderful book
Children love her and children love it. Even adults. Even adults. Great way to tell a story, talk about seasons and listen to music.

   Beautiful book, but fragile
We love the sound quality, the art and the story of this book. But it has not held well with use by small people. Really wish it was more durable ''. We won 't purchase more unless the publisher improves the construction of the book.

   Mixed Feelings about this
For Christmas last year, my granddaughters received this from me. They have spent each an hour or more reading and listening to music on several sittings. As a musician, however, the first excerpts of each of the movements is so short-just the musical couple of phrases that it drives me completely crazy. I have played the CD of the whole four seasons for them several times when we have been in the car, but in these days of COVID, I can not support the snippets that they have been reading with the complete movements. This book would be useful only to families that would be willing to play or stream complete movements in conjunction with the children's use of the book.

So in love with this book!
As a musical aunt in the family, I bought a copy for my niece when she was born. She is now almost three and loves her Pickle book more than anything! I love watching her eyes lighten listening to summer storms rage or autumn harvests bounce along. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and it is easy to get lost in the page and music!

   Love this series!
We love this series of the books! We love this series of the books! I bought this one for my 3-year-old and is a wonderful introduction to orchestral music. A fun story about a little girl, her puppy and an apple tree accompanies the story with little audio clips from each movement. And the illustrations are beautiful and give a lot to talk about. This story in particular is really great for discussions about how music can make us feel or summon up memories. At night, my son falls asleep listening to the full audio of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons and can name each season. He particularly enjoys listening for the storm The buttons can be a little tricky, but we feel that it doesn 't bother us enough to dock a star. I with there were more in this series!

   Help to get new product
I was so excited about this book, I was so excited about it. I sent it to my grandmother as a gift, but the button isn 't working to play the music. I 'd like to have a new one sent to her. The return policy, however, wants me to return the damaged product. I live in CO and she lives in CA. I can not send it back and is too old to return. She really loves classical music and this would have been the best gift. Any help? Any help?

Button issues are real but definitely recommend!
Overall, I recommend this book and would like to get the other two in the series eventually. It is really great how music is described and explained for children. My 2 year old son particularly loves the two stormy song clips and wants to play them repeatedly. Yes, the buttons are an issue. They're very difficult to push and I usually have to flip back to the page and push them directly. The book also lacked a cover page on the inside, which seemed a little odd and abrupt to me. But overall, it's a beautiful book and the illustrations are detailed with much to look at and enjoy. The best of all is how much my son loves to read it!
