The story follows Prince Tamino as he breaks into the Sun King's palace, charms the court with his magic flute, and gets caught by the guards. Will the prince escape with the princess?

   These are the best
These books are absolutely beautiful, but I did take one star away because The Magic Flute is my favorite opera, but this book skipped the Popageno song, which our family loves. Yes, it includes the Queen of the Night. Pa Pa Pa Pa.

   My son loves it!
My son views and listens to this book whenever he cannot or will not hear the actual opera or see it on TV. As the holidays passed, he moved on but still likes to pick it up from time to time.

   Fun books for kids
My grand children absolutely love them. We have the others - Nutcracker, Carnival of the Animals, Sleeping Beauty, Bernadette Peters. All five stars were awarded star billing. Even the 2 1/2 year old hums the themes and easily identifies the part of the story it relates to. Only 4 stars because it doesnt include the PaPaPa-Pa-gano song that is so charmingly funny in the opera or the Zorastroria that goes so low. I have seen two Magic Flute productions for kids - one in France and one in Germany - and those two numbers along with the Queen of the Night elicited squeals of delight and laughter from the kids.

   Different story
My daughter likes this book, but the story is so different that I have trouble reading it and changing back the details that they changed. Instead of the three princes, Tamino is accompanied by a fairy Also, the music excerpts are shorter, most of them 5 or 7 seconds. I didn't like it.

   Absolutely Love The Story Orchestra!
Four of the books were purchased for my daughter by Amazon. com. Before she could read, she loved us reading these stories to her or looking at the illustrations and pushing the buttons on each page to follow along with the orchestras. Or she reads them to herself, we read them to her or she reads them to herself. We're thrilled to see her reading and growing her love of classical music through The Story Orchestra, Garton said.

   One of my least favorites
My daughter has been a Magic Flute enthusiast for over 2 years, we have seen many versions of the opera, so we are very familiar with the story. It was extremely disappointing and for them to suddenly read a completely different version of the opera than what they had been exposed to, very few elements of the opera are the same. However, the clips of the opera are wonderful, and the illustrations are always brilliant. It's great to see that people are still interested in hearing the story, Bruno said.

   Love! Love! Great introduction to famous composers!
The second book is "The Lord's Resistance" by John Heine. He has a 4-year-old and a 9-year old. We give these books to our friends and give them away for free! He said Blair was "always happy" with his family.

   Slight differences from the opera but it's actually a better story
Normally I don't like it when the magic flute differs from the opera. But when I tell my daughter the English translation of what is going on there are some things I have to skip to avoid flagrant racism and sexism. This version makes Tamino and Pamina fairly equal, which I think is sort of implied in the opera, but is not fleshed out well. It also makes Sarastro and the queen of the night equal opposites rather than a good guy and a bad guy, which I like because it's kind of nonsensical in the opera. My 3-year-old has been a huge Magic Flute fan since she was 2 and she absolutely LOVES this book and so do I! Even when she plays the music clips, she grins so hard. It is a little hard for her to push her small fingers to the limit, but I have to help, Mr Gest said.
