The writing and the pictures are kind of busy.

This book was a good idea but the execution is not perfect. The writing on the top of the pictures makes it appear too busy, so it is hard to find the words and maybe hard to read the pictures.

We used this first time with our Earth Science Homeschool unit as a fun way to preview the topics we would cover for the semester, and the kids like looking through it on their own.

Educational and cool

This book is awesome! The pages fold like an accordion and pull out. It teaches about the layers of the earth, the elements and the soil beneath the roads, as well as drains and where the water goes. Such beautiful illustrations!

This is my new favorite book of the 6 year old sons. He carries it everywhere. He is fascinated by all the layers under his feet! What a neat foldable design. This is for our unit in Earth science, Got this.

My child wants to read it again and again
Derived From Web , Feb 29, 2020
The illustrations make the experience truly magical. My 4 year old will not listen to the story all the way through, it is a lot of great information, but she has learned a lot from what she's been patient enough to hear. My only real criticism is typography. All black text, sometimes on a dark purple background, is not easy to read in low light. It is kind of an afterthought to the illustration and that is a shame.

Engaging book

It is a challenge to manage as the pages unfold to a long page. My only disappointment with the book is that it feels as if the journey back to the street is upside down.

the best gift ever!
Derived From Web , Nov 13, 2019
This was a gift to a six-year-old boy. His parents tell me that this was the best book ever written for one of their children. It is carefully made, very robust, and has just the perfect balance between information and intrigue. Honestly, i don 't know how i can come up with a better gift for the next member of their family.

A unique display that informs and delights
Derived From Web , Dec 28, 2018
We gave this to our 4-year-old for Christmas gift. He has been curious about fossils, bones and underground. This book is packed with information and illustrations. We read it in detail and in an overview. There is also something exciting about reaching the core of the Earth in the spread and flipping the entire book to climb back out of the other side. Both 4 and 6 year olds are spread on the floor drawing what they see and simultaneously folding the book so that it looks like dinosaur teeth and jumping over it Evel Knievel style. I'd say it is a win on all fronts.

Pulling Science and Social Studies together!
Derived From Web , Nov 9, 2017
Great book for integrating social studies and science into the second grade curriculum. The teachers loved it and the students ask for it during their independent reading time. The students enjoyed studying all the details in the wonderful illustrations. As a literacy specialist, I think this book is a winner in every respect, a must for every second grade classroom.
