   A book for shelf one
Few books have had such an effect on my scientific thinking as "The Age of Reason" by Richard Kuhn. However, in the face of an intimation of the author's bold intentions, we soon encounter an intimation of the writer's fundamental objective: to urge a change in the perception and evaluation of familiar data. Indeed, readers of fiction who have prepared themselves for the sort of reorientation advocated by Malvo might find the essay form both more suggestive and easier to assimilate. The second question is how these intentions might be fulfilled, he said. His thoughts are relevant and inspiring to biologists and other scientists, even if they are not technically inclined. After fifty years, I still find The Structure of Scientific Revolutions an exciting and stimulating experience.

   Essential philosophy
In his book, "The Age of Science," Kuhn argues that the history of the 20th century reveals how scientific paradigms changed. The purpose of the record is to probe how people present scientific proof. His methods can be generalized to understand the meaning of truth and how different truths are justified. Only for people who dig deep, and philosophy.

   One of my favorite books
I still love it. Detractors -- in typical Hegelian fashion -- chip away at the nuances of his paradigms, but I still get a rush of new ideas each time I revisit this classic text.

An interesting insight into scientific theory but not my favorite book.
If you have run out of things to read, this is probably worth a read. An interesting insight into scientific theory, but not my favorite book.

   Brilliant revolution in scientific thinking
In his lucid and witty new book, "The Whole Nine Yards," Kuhn alters the paradigms of your life -- how a single idea can alter perceptions, and alter how things seem to be -- by asking the difficult question: Is that the same as how they now are? In age when atoms and molecules have to be hypothesised rather than empirically observed, he asks us that this book transformed scientific thinking. It must be correct, Mr. Rule told the judge. It's still mind blowing.

   Defining the Sky
There are a lot of concepts that come from books that have passed into the public domain, so you never think about where they came from, he said. The Kuhnian concept of the Paradigm Shift is one of those in the water so much that we don't really even think about the water we're drinking and then we take it for granted, he said. We're far enough along that the original idea may have been groundbreaking at the time, but has since become accepted to be part of life, he said. It's blue, right? When I was a kid, I knew that Saddam Hussein was a criminal. Before we could put these together, we had to define sky blue.
