Book Overview

When a young girl named Kikko realizes her father has forgotten the pie he was supposed to bring to Grandma's house, she offers to try and catch him as he makes his way through the woods. She hurriedly follows her father's footprints in the snow and happens upon a large house she has never seen before. Curious, Kikko peers through the window, when she is startled by a small lamb wearing a coat and carrying a purse. Even more surprising, the lamb speaks, asking her in a kind voice, ?Are you here for the tea party Suddenly, Kikko realizes her trip through the woods has turned into something magical.

Award-winning author and illustrator Akiko Miyakoshi has beautifully crafted an original fairy tale picture book that will delight and enchant. The unique visual presentation features mostly black-and-white art with the occasional use of red or yellow to help guide readers through the pages. Kikko's blend of courage and reticence along with her inquisitive nature makes her a character children will relate to, and the many unexpected twists and turns of her adventure keep the intrigue growing. The ambiguous ending --- in which it is not clear whether Kikko imagined the tea party or if the animals simply disappeared back into the woods --- provides a terrific opportunity for children to weigh in on what they think happened. This book also could launch classroom conversations about children's own experiences of being trusted with big responsibilities.

   Beautiful, simple, engaging story.
Beautiful book with a magical engaging story. My 3.5 daughter loves it and I have found her reading the book many times by herself. The story is simple, but sweet and engaging and the illustrations are beautiful.
   one of our faves
The kindness, the simplicity and especially the illustrations are remarkable. We had a digital copy that we handed over when we moved overseas, but I bought a beautiful hardcover copy to take with us immediately. I probably buy another physical copy because I read it so often to my son.
   Delightful book
This is a book about how to find an unusual friendship in an unusual place. The artwork is delightful and the book is quite wonderful.
   Great story that sparks imagination
They loved it so much that I gave it to them!
   Magnificent tale of growing up
In and of herself, it is a wildish tale of a girl's journey to maturity, with the help of her animus and her magical nature, and how she must distinguish herself from her mother to come into her own maturity and authenticity.
   Ackward illustration and weird story
The book by Ought is based on Amazon suggestions and customer reviews. The book starts abruptly, however, which makes the reader kind of confused becuz ur in the middle of the story without a real beginning plus all the pictures I found creepy. It is like bunnies and bears and deer, but with a human body wearing human clothing. It was way too mature for me whimsy. Plus o thought it was kind of cringe that the little girls follow a total stranger into the woods thinking it is her father, but after discovery it's not the animals that convince her to go into the house, umm NO. Plus the house is like a huge mansion in the middle of the woods, again NOT the whimsical wooden story you expect and definitely not with pictures to match. Becuz of the adult story and the cockeworthy animals with adult bodies threw our copy out. I 'd recommend a SKIP on this one.
Not as magical as the cover and synopsis leaf you to brlieve
This was one of those recommended impulse purchases for you. Like I know, I am a sucker for children with attractive print. But I did not love it. I can 't even tell you what the story was about, as it was that memorable. My children have never asked me to read it again.
   Most beautiful animal story told
One of the most precious children's books I own... and I have many many children's books. Drawings are beautiful, story captures both the child and the adult's interest, creative and a wonderful moral.
   Simple gorgeous beauty
Beautiful, beautiful, and beautiful. Mysterious ''. Amazing! Beautiful! unforgettable ''.
