Love the author, hate this series

I can't stand the writing of the Apollo character. My daughter and I both devoured every book from Rick, but we couldn't stand the attitude that starts Apollo in each of the books in this series. We walked away from these books and couldn't finish them. There was a huge departure from the rest of his story.

He has no cares in the world and is ruining my heart. Every time he comes out with a new book, I get to be even more impressed. Wow, urban fantasy with mythology all over the place. Apollo and Meg have some precious smol babies from PJO and HOO with them. If I' ve seen one of them, I love them. Their friendship has never been easy, but I think they' ve found a new home with this book. The Arrow of Dodona talking in all capital letters in Shakespeare was my favorite part of the book. The arrow in this book has some of the best lines. The character development of Apollo over these three books is amazing. He's still a bit shallow, but he's a lot better than the character in book 1. Apollo is one of my favorites because of his unique perspective.

If This Series Could Stand by Itself.... (SPOILERS)

Major characters from previous stories wouldn't be needed. Minor characters such as camp directors are permissible. He has created a new environment and many new characters to make the book work. He has to bring in previous characters and then kill them in order to create sympathy and suspense for what will happen next. This is detested by readers because it serves no purpose other than to put the character in a good light. Rick, there's a clue. Try to get the story across with imagination and less inane remembrances of Apollo. You remember how to do that?

Normally I like this author's work. I think it was the wrong time for this one to come out. The humor was lost because of the darkness. The major death was diminished by the small glimpse of the character before it happened. Maybe I was depressed at the time and when I read it again it will be better. It was not the best idea to read this one after my beloved Border Collie passed away. Prepare for the darkest Riordan book yet. That includes the house of Hades.

The third book in the camp half blood saga is so devastating. I was left shook by The Mark of Athena, The Titan's Curse, and now The Burning Maze. Apollo and his friends are facing their toughest opponent yet. Rick ripped my emotions to shreds with this one, so put your guard up if you haven't read it yet. The series continues to be action packed and hilarious. The other Rick has found a way to balance the comedy and action. Even after 13 books have been published and only 2 more left, I still find myself learning about one of my favorite mythology. It's great to know that an author like Rick puts his knowledge and research into this kind of media outlet. This series is not recommended.

Strong Series

This series makes me laugh, cry and feel sad at the same time. It feels dark and light at the same time. Riordan's books have had death in them but this book really hurts. The humor and heart is still there. The characters from previous series and this series will forever be altered by this series. It feels like there's no way this ends well for them, but I'm always surprised. You will find that you care so much about these characters. I love this series and can't wait to see what happens next.

Heads up - this is not a trilogy

I thought The Trials of Apollo was a trilogy. This is not true. I was expecting everything to be wrapped up, so that threw off where this story line went for me. Some of the events in this book made me sad, but I'm waiting on pins and needles for the next one. Apollo is becoming a much more likeable character as he gets less annoying to me. The reappearance of different characters from the series is always great, and this book is no different. If you enjoy the series, you should definitely read this one.
