Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

Trigger point therapy is one of the fastest-growing and most effective pain therapies in the world. Medical doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, and massage therapists are all beginning to use this technique to relieve patients' formerly undiagnosable muscle and joint pain, both conditions that studies have shown to be the cause of nearly 25 percent of all doctor visits.

This book addresses the problem of myofascial trigger points--tiny contraction knots that develop in a muscle when it is injured or overworked. Restricted circulation and lack of oxygen in these points cause referred pain. Massage of the trigger is the safest, most natural, and most effective form of pain therapy. Trigger points create pain throughout the body in predictable patterns characteristic to each muscle, producing discomfort ranging from mild to severe. Trigger point massage increases circulation and oxygenation in the area and often produces instant relief.

The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook, Third Edition, has made a huge impact among health professionals and the public alike, becoming an overnight classic in the field of pain relief. This edition includes a new chapter by the now deceased author, Clair Davies' daughter, Amber Davies, who is passionate about continuing her father's Read More chevron_right

I Can't Say Enough About This Book!
I can not say enough about the Trigger Point therapy book. Learning about the trigger points in my close muscles... of which I have many... and the fact that I can do something about them myself through self-massuring has given me so much hope. 2013 was a tough year - it seemed like everything was falling apart in my 66 year old body, but not in 2014 that I am doing what I am learning through this book! If you will take the time to read it all, see what you find yourself and why, learn about referred pain in your body and where it comes from so that you can become stronger, you will be thrilled with it. I already sent two copies to others and are surprised and full of new hope when they find themselves in the pages of the Trigger Point Therapy book and put this wonderful resource to work. It is a workbook... If you use it, it will work!
   On the Complicated Side
I found it complicated to use ''. It is not like you do someplace and it tells you what to do... it is more the other way around, this and that '' can cause it to trigger pain here and there '', so I found it difficult. My massage therapist really likes it, though the three stars are the only ones. He finds it less complicated to use than me... a 50+ year old who hurts...I hope to get through it, mark it and put tabs on it... time consuming and I don 't have it right now.
If you have any pain, buy this book.
This book will help you relieve pain faster and better than anything else. Clair Davies has done us a great service by putting his experience and research into writing for us. Not a light read, but worth every penny. I bought a few of these for the family and friends. The shoulder pain book and the headache book are also excellent and a little more focused on those areas of the body.
Why do doctors not know this???
I wish I stumbled on this book sooner. Years of pain could have been avoided. Years of suffering could have been avoided. I never understand how multiple doctors could not have pointed me in the right direction at least once. The state's premier doctors and the state's excellent hospital offered no help. They told me to look at my diet, exercise less, try supplements, and get a new office chair. None of them helped. I was skeptical, but it delivers really. I had never heard of muscles not being able to heal themselves, but that exactly what I had and Davies'massage technique healed them within a few weeks. I hope others find this book as helpful, as it was to me.
Buy it, it's worth every penny. Changed my life.
For over 15 years, I suffered from severe, sometimes debilitating upper back, neck and head pain, and also suffered from sports and weight training. I followed the clear instructions in this book to find trigger points and get rid of them, and now I am free of pain. No doctor, chiropractor, massage therapist or physical therapist could help, but this book helped me to heal myself. I have sent 3 more copies to family and friends who have also found success using this simple, well written, well documented and excellently illustrated book. For less than the price of a doctor's copay, you may be free of pain.
What can I say that hasn't been said already?
What can I say that hasn't already been said? This book is a life saver if you are prepared to study, have some common sense and are not too impatient with some problems. I am a musician and I am also physically active, so that I use this text all the time. The list goes on my back, my shoulder, my hands my knees, my hips, the list goes on. Previously, I spent $ 60-70 a session at various health care professionals. This book saved me hundreds of dollars and put my healing back in my own hands. Most of the therapy that you can do yourself can be done by yourself. Keep in mind that some muscles may need assistance from a qualified trigger point therapist or massage therapist, namely the QL's, which can be easily bruised from the pointy bits of the transverse processes.
This book saved my back! Buy the book!!!
The book saved my back! I aas '' was facing invasive surgery without a guarantee of success. I had a back injury that left me bedridden for a year until I followed this fantastic book. The author is very knowledgeable about muscle structure and explains in layman terms just the right steps to relax the muscles. I purchased this book for someone who needed the physical therapy method. I also introduced and explained this system to many back pain sufferers.
how do you say, "pain relief"?
I have used this book for finding trigger points in my back for recurring neck and shoulder pain, but when I inserted a disc, it did not occur to me immediately to return to it. It was when I had terrible cramping in my calf and thigh that pulled the book back. At 2AM I was able to get relief that ice and heat faled to help and during that time I had to wait for pain medication to take effect. My husband has a carple tunnel syndrom that he is able to get some relief from. It is a great book, with picture diagrams, with step by step directions, to go with great step by step directions. This book is a great investment.
   This works for spot treatment.
Trigger point therapy works, but other stuff does too. I bought this during a period when I stopped working out and stretching out. I did not want to take drugs. Weight gain was P-A-I-N-F-U-L!!! Weight gain was P-A-I-N-F-U-L!!! Weight gain was P-A-I-N-F-U-L!!! The hypersupplementation was woeful. I got sick of soaking, clothes, drinking stuff, rest and life from the pain. I was too fat for me so I bought this. I read it. I use it simply by if I'm in pain, I rub it out or warm it away. Mostly though, I manage pain by keeping my weight down with lifestyle choices.
Great professionally-written book, lots of fotos, intended for layman
This is a fabu book. I am not a professional ''. Originally, I bought it for sciata-like pain in a hip. Usually, I worked a lot on those muscles before going to sleep, but don 't know if the pains went away in round 2006 and haven 't come back. I also lost weight then, but gradually gained it back over 3 yrs or so. But I followed the directions for a pain in one hand and a plantar pain I got one day for no reason -- it worked both times. So it is a go to for me, which fortunately I have not needed for a few years. If you are hesitating about buying it, read the author's story at the beginning about how she got into it -- she was a piano tuner. After learning the trigger point, she got into helping other tuners and then branched out from there.
