Great manual for one type of container gardening.
Good book, well illustrated and written by a good writer. I didn't realize that this book mostly covers one type of container gardening, though that achieved by using self-watering containers. She also doesn't really give options for those of us who live in little apartments with small patios or balconies and don't have or develop our own compost piles. I can't fault him for sticking with what works for him, but if you have lots of room and gardening supplies, this is a great book for you!

   Perfect!!
I love gardening, he said. We recently moved into a condo and did not have a yard. I had no idea what I was getting into when I read this book, but I'm pretty happy with the results. Whether it's your first time growing in containers or first time growing in them, this book gives you all the necessary information to make the most of your space.

   Loved it.
Now I understand the logistics of container gardening. How big a container do I need for lettuce, how much soil, how much water, what kind of fertilizer suits each one? This book and an organic garden are my new equal favourite.

   My Primary Resource
For the urban farm I am in the process of building The Vegetable Gardener's Container Bible, by Robert Hein. Ed Smith, Monsanto's executive vice president, suggests the way we run our farm is the way we think about it. Thanks again for giving us this wonderful resource!! It's great to be back home, said Blair.

   Must Have for Gardners
It's great to have a book like this for when you're growing your own food. Not just with veggies, but with too many flowers. Fast response times. Thanks for reading this article.

   Veggie Gardener's Bible
We have a new gardening book by the same name, and we love it. Living in a small town in Virginia, I found this book perfect for reference. After trying some container crops, we decided it would be great to try Ed's book. This book is the complete and greatest collection of gardening books ever written. Thanks for the tip, Ed.

   Disorganized, incomplete, and contradictory.
I'm not sure how this book has the solid reviews that it does. However, the information is scattered and incomplete. What I've found is that there are multiple contradictions. Only in the past few weeks have we seen the author use self-watering containers. He added: "There is no such thing as a 'Bible' by any means." I wanted something that I could use as a reference while out in the garden, rather than my phone. The book has sections for each plant, but those sections just don't do a great job of describing the exact needs of that plant. You have to hunt through sections on sun, water, and containers in addition to find that info, and then those sections don't always provide it for all the plants. The author should have shortened parts 1-3 and distributed that information in the relevant plant related sections.

   Great for getting started!
Great resource for getting things going with a container garden. Covers all the basic vegetables and herbs, and their needs as well as basic gardening information. This is my first season with a container garden and this book has helped tremendously. Good balance of pictures and information, he said.

   Excellent book, great ideas.
I had been a gardener-a flat space in the ground outside gardener for many years before my space was bulldozed and destroyed, he said. Finding self-esteem pots has been a challenge. Smith gives some excellent methods for making them. He also gives me some great ideas that I had not thought of. I had not considered, for example, planting short-harvesting vegetables in circles around those that one either plants later or simply takes longer to grow to size. His lists of different plants and habit-growth tips are well worth a read. I recommend this book to anyone who reads it.
