From John Grisham, America's #1 bestselling author, comes the most electrifying novel of the year, a high-stakes thrill ride through the darkest corners of the Sunshine State.
We expect our judges to be honest and wise. Their integrity and impartiality are the bedrock of the entire judicial system. We trust them to ensure fair trials, to protect the rights of all litigants, to punish those who do wrong, and to oversee the orderly and efficient flow of justice. But what happens when a judge bends the law or takes a bribe? It's rare, but it happens.
Lacy Stoltz is an investigator for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct. She is a lawyer, not a cop, and it is her job to respond to complaints dealing with judicial misconduct. After nine years with the Board, she knows that most problems are caused by incompetence, not corruption.
But a corruption case eventually crosses her desk. A previously disbarred lawyer is back in business with a new identity. He now goes by the name Greg Myers, and he claims to know of a Florida judge who has stolen more money than all other crooked judges combined. And not just crooked judges in Florida. All judges, from all states, and throughout U.S. history.
What's the source of the ill-gotten gains? It seems the judge was secretly involved with Read More chevron_right

Meh
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
It's hard to imagine a Grisham novel. I haven't heard about him renting out his name to other writers, so apparently he just sleepwalked through writing this for another payday, he said. I'll definitely pay more attention to the reviews before buying next time, and hopefully Mr Grisham puts in a little more effort into his work, Boucher said. I have some pride, John, about what gets published under your name.

... fan and have read most of his books-- I like legal thrillers but am not a big sports fan
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
I am a Grisham fan and have read most of his books, but I am not a big sports fan, so I have not read his sports-focused books. He fleshes out the story nicely and kept me engaged, Morgenthau said. While I enjoyed this book, I would not call it one of my favorite Grisham books because there was little in the way of actual legal and courtroom drama, intrigue, and action that I really enjoy, it was more of a mystery-thriller that happened to involve an aspect of the legal system. Four stars for a solid read by a favorite author.

John Grisham is a master of suspense. It's just that I can't put it down." It was a book well-worth the price of admission.

Stunning. Brilliant.
Derived From Web , Jan 18, 2022
Slow to start, initially, but as I hung in there and trodden through, this story just took off! To my surprise, the IRS said, "Objection is pending." It's a big deal, eating alone is not an option, Blair said. He continued, "I become thirsty for the truth and the Intricacies of the webs we weave for $$$, no matter who gets hurt." One has to wonder how many more brilliant minds will be uncovered through research into human behavior. Sir Richard was delighted to hear that Sir Viv has agreed to front the new Thames Jubilee project.

Whistleblower drama about corrupt judge and much more
Derived From Web , Oct 25, 2021
I haven't read a John Grisham book in a while, which is too bad because he's been a favorite of mine. I enjoyed the first book in the series, The Whistler. Lacy Stoltz, a lawyer who works for the Florida Board of Judicial Conduct, said no charges have been filed against Rudolph. She and her partner filed official complaints against the judge, Michael Conover, accusing him of misconduct. They have never taken on a case of this magnitude or this danger." The case marks one of the first times in which an anonymous whistleblower has filed a criminal complaint against a government official. This is a great thriller for Grisham fans and all readers who enjoy legal thrillers. I'm off to read the rest of the book.

Not the Best
Derived From Web , Oct 25, 2021
The first half of the book was incredibly slow, and I found it hard to get into as it was very boring and predictable. The pace picked up in the second half, but there were no real twists as is common in Grisham's books. This one's just ok, Mr. Caramore said of the ballerina.

Classic Grisham

On the other hand, it was a bit of anticlimactic at the end. Overall, it's a pretty good read. He also said that Grisham "takes the craft seriously."

The Whistler was pact with facts and descriptions/explanations
Derived From Web , Aug 29, 2021
It was more nonfiction than fiction, and I gave it a two because it was mostly a children's book. It was well written and at times compelling but if you are looking for entertainment it is slow and ponderous. I think I'll change it to a three for quality, but wish it had been more enjoyable.

Not a good read
Derived From Web , May 8, 2021
A couple of weeks ago, we found out that Sam was in fact dead, unable to make it past chapter 14. I'm not a huge fan of books where a main character is killed off so early in the book. A lot of good books, but not one of Grisham's. Not a good read.

Not very interesting
Derived From Web , Feb 8, 2020
I bought it on CD to listen to when my husband and I go out. For a long time, I have been a fan of John Grisham's fiction. It was very boring, and I didn't really care about any of the characters. 0 3171201 3171201 Like the rest of the show, it was mostly forgettable. It was a bit confusing to me as it seemed to jump around a lot and there were so many characters that I had a hard time keeping up with them all. It was so dull, I couldn't hear the radio, and we didn't even turn it on while driving. Even though we're working on a book, I kept thinking, this is John Grisham. In a conference call, he said, "The problem was that it didn't work out."
