Monstrous machines rule the Earth, but a few humans are fighting for freedom in this repackaged start to a classic alien trilogy ideal for fans of Rick Yancey's The 5th Wave.

Will Parker never dreamed he would be the one to rebel against the Tripods. With the approach of his thirteenth birthday, he expected to attend his Capping ceremony as planned and to become connected to the Tripods--huge three-legged machines--that now control all of Earth. But after an encounter with a strange homeless man called Beanpole, Will sets out for the White Mountains, where people are said to be free from the control of the Tripods.

But even with the help of Beanpole and his friends, the journey is long and hard. And with the Tripods hunting for anyone who tries to break free, Will must reach the White Mountains fast. But the longer he's away from his home, the more the Tripods look for him.and no one can hide from the monstrous machines forever.

   Great YA Sci-Fi
I bought this book for my daughter because she loved the Hunger Games and I thought she would like it. It is an older book, written back in the days when YA science fiction was more of a novelty than it is today, and it is a really boring book. There is a timeless quality to this book and its stories. Unlike Hunger Games, this one is a result of an alien invasion and our world has lost the struggle. The theme of free will and liberty as well as the individual vs. the state continues to ring true.I remember a great series from then.

Memories of reading this as a child.
I have a special place in my heart for this book.I first read about it in 1972I was in 6 th grade.I was enamored with it, but I didn't understand a lot of it.I wrote a letter with the help of my teacher to the publisher.I was not sure if they would answer. John Christopher was the one who answered all my questions. The letter was posted in the library for a while.I have never forgotten that.I have to re- read this to get back to that childhood. There is an amazing story.

   Re-read after many years
I read this book at the same age as the author.I still find it to be an excellent read, and it was a wonder to me at the time. John Christopher's writing style is simple but he provides enough detail and texture to make it enjoyable to read.I recommend this book and the entire Tripod trilogy for any young adult who is an avid reader, and appreciates a story that's less like a modern action movie.

John Christopher thant you, tripods is great.
I found the trilogy in my school library when I was a teen.I began the adventure with a young teen girl. This is a favorite series for me as an older adult. Old english style writing is something I enjoy.I fell in love with the book series all over again when I was an adult. The writing is excellent and the story is good.I enjoyed the entire series as I did 30 years ago.A must for young adventurist. Christopher, thank you for an excellent read, High Ky.

   Remembering
I was in elementary school when I read this series.I just wanted to go back and read the book again.I wanted to refresh my memory of what I'd read.I remember having read that series a long time ago. It is a kids book.I enjoyed reading it again because it is still well written.I think it is a worthwhile read if you haven't read it. It's worth reading again if you like it like me.
