I read this book with my students and loved the rich text and pictures. For my class, this was also a great way to start a conversation about bullying, when the neighborhood boys bull the broom.

Great Halloween story! Chris Van Allsburg never disappoints!
Derived From Web , May 28, 2022
As he always does, creative and artistically illustrated. I bought the book as a Halloween gift for my four-year-old grandson, a savvy pre- reader who devours his books. I asked my son to read before he gives it to my grandson, because I wonder if it may scare him a bit. It is suitable for 5-10 year olds and adults will enjoy as well. I don 't think that you can really outgrown them!

Great book!

The illustrations are very good, as always, but the story itself is just wonderful and has a great sense of humor and a wise ending. My children also like it, I should mention, but as with most Van Allsburg books, they are not just for children, but for any age.

What a special and beautiful book. I have a grand nephew and a grand niece and I want them to be exposed to as many books as possible. This fits the bill really well.

A fine addition to my five year old daughter's Van Allsburg ...

A beautiful addition to my five-year-old daughter's library in Van Allsburg. Saying that it isn't quite Jumanji should not be taken as a knock.

I found a copy of this in a library to sell '' pile, and I was delighted with the story and the artwork. Not nearly as scary as you might think considering the title.

Great book for teachers!

A wonderful story book with a Halloween theme. Fabulous illustrations by the artist. So much potential for language arts lessons as well as teaching tolerance lessons. The Lesson potential covers grade levels from 5th to 2nd. Great example of how writers craft a surprise ending.
