This is a story about a duck and mouse who get swallowed by a wolf, and then decide to live in his belly.

Early one morning a mouse met a wolf
and was quickly gobbled up.

When a woeful mouse is swallowed by a wolf, he quickly learns he is not alone: a duck has already set up digs, and, boy, has that duck got it figured out Turns out it's pretty nice in there, with delicious food and elegant table settings, courtesy of the wolf's unchecked gluttony. And there's something even better: no more fear of being eaten by a wolf In fact, life is pretty good, until a hunter shows up. . . . With a nod to traditional fables and a wink to the reader, the award-winning Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen offer a tale of cooperation and creative cuisine that is sure to go down easy.

It has to be forbidden !!!!
There is a hunter, gun, smoking, animal shooting, death, etc. I wouldn 't even allow any teenagers to read it, how it is approved for children! How the book has received 5 stars reviews from over 350 people! Should we teach our children to kill animals?

Best BOOK!! Don’t listen to sensitive sally’s
I don 't even understand the negative reviews on this book at all, other than it really shows how sensitive and touchy people have become. My son is now 10 months old, and this is our book FAVORITE easily. It's very hysterical! I love reading this book so much to him. It's great and the story is funny! If you decide to take it literally... maybe it might not be for you, but if you have a sense of humor and want something fun, this is it hands down!

   Beautifully Illustrated and Fun Story
Originally, I ordered this book for my younger cousins, and WOW! I read the book and immediately fell in love with Jon Klasson's illustrations! The book is beautifully illustrated and even more beautifully designed — it is typeset in Bodoni, but looks super modern and elegant! The story is also really fun to read even as an adult. In the end, this goes into the MY Book Collection and soon my cousin will order their own copy.

   Not Good
This was bought based on positive reviews. Saw the gun violence against animals, the silly Kipling-esque why the Wolf Howls Angle and what the authors seem to think is a cutesy use of the word Death, and I had to return it. I bought the book for a girl whose grandma, it turns out, is dying of cancer. Good thing I read the book before wrapping it, because I cringed at the thought of my friend reading the death line to his little girl, while his mother is actually dying. Terrible : Will stick to other book authors of children. This book is not even that dark. It's just that the authors throw death, violence and incarceration as fun topics carelessly.

would not read to a child
This book goes by the way of Morbid. And leaves an ending for the wolf to suffer through the rest of its life, on top of everything else in the book. It is sending it back.

I have a toddler obbsseesssd with the big bad wolf.
The author loves this book. As someone who has worked with children for the last 20 years, this book comes to all my kid events with me. It always keeps kids interested and they always giggle and stay obsorbed while reading. I ordered this book so much that I loved two others by this author. This is the kind of book that makes you want to be a children's author. At least, I am so happy!

The author and the illustrator team love. One of the most creative and fun children's books. I don 't mind rereading this one.

   Klassen/Barnett don't disappoint!
I have loved everything that these guys have put together, and this book is no exception. I want to instill a love of reading in my child, but I don 't want to lose my mind by reading dull or generic books that brought me to tears! These beautiful Jon Klassen illustrations and wise Mac Barnett stories are just what children should be reading, and I am so glad to have discovered this team!

   Strange, but funny.
Mac Barnett did it again. Created a story so unusual that no one else could possibly have come up with it. Most creatures would find swallowing a wolf to be a bad thing, but the duck and the mouse decide it is not so bad. Somehow, the two avoid being eaten and turn the wolf's belly into quite a comfortable home. When a hunter threatens their home, the duck and the mouse find that they may have to stand for what they have claimed as their own. The dry, neutral illustrations by Jon Klassen complement the tongue-in-cheek nature of the story. This book works especially well with older readers who appreciate the ironies inherent in the story.
