A year they'll never forget

But Miss Agnes is different -- she doesn't get frustrated with her students, and she throws away old textbooks and reads Robin Hood instead For the first time, Fred and her classmates begin to enjoy their lessons and learn to read and write -- but will Miss Agnes be like all the rest and leave as quickly as she came?

I loved Emma V. Agnes'character absolutely. I am receiving my BSE in elementary education, and I absolutely love reading books that have to do with teachers, especially teachers of the old days. Miss Agnes is, in every sense, a true teacher. Her teaching style is very much like mine outside of the box set. Under Miss Agnes's leadership, each of the students discover individual talents. You can see the children growing up in each chapter as individual people. By the end of the book you have fallen in love with Miss Agnes, Fred, Bertha, Martha, Jimmy Joe, Bokko and the others on Kanakuk Mountain. Loved the Style '' writing told from the viewpoint of the student Fred.

Very interesting

This is a very interesting book, set in the far north after World War II. It is how people even then lived. It shows how a good teacher can make the difference in children who want to learn.

The Year of Miss Agnes may be the best educatiosn book ever.

He reads it each year to his students and especially the Indian kids like the way Miss Agnes meets their needs and captures their interest. This may be the best pedagogical book ever written. I was at Syracuse University like Kirkpatrick Hill about the same time as she was. There, I learned Russian in the air force and would love to be able to communicate with her. Sam Conner is a Sam Conner.

I purchased this book directly from Amazon and the cover I received must be an old one. I'm quite tempted to return it, because the new one is much nicer.

The physical book, not the story
Derived From Web , Mar 13, 2021
This is a story with 5 stars for sure! Unfortunately, the copy we received was different cover art than shown and had the back cover bent with a significant crease that will not come out, as well as some worn edges. My daughter is VERY into every aspect of books and likes them in the perfect condition. She is also really into cover art and was disappointed to see the different version. If you want to read the story just the way it is, but if you are into all the nuances of books, you may not get what is shown.
