An ingenious idea, gorgeously realized. -Shelf Awareness, starred review
Both simple and ingenious in concept, Wenzel's book feels like a game changer. -The Huffington Post

The cat walked through the world, with its whiskers, ears, and paws . . . In this glorious celebration of observation, curiosity, and imagination, Brendan Wenzel shows us the many lives of one cat, and how perspective shapes what we see. When you see a cat, what do you see?

If you and your child liked Ricky the Rock That Couldn't Roll, The Wonderful Things You Will Be, The Girl Who Drank the Moon, Finding Winnie, or Radiant Child - you'll love They All Saw A Cat.

Brilliant message, simple story, lovely illustrations. A winner!
This book is really kind of amazing. I am a sucker for new picture books for my 3.5 year old son. I prefer books with at least a subtle message of social awareness ''. This cat book we read for the first time tonight and my son immediately wanted to read it again. The words are very simple, but there is a story behind them. The phrasing is repetitive, which is nice for my son, because he likes to contribute and quickly figure out the pattern if you can even call it and recite the story. The illustrations really make the book. During the first reading, it was hard for my son to see that every depiction was the cat. The message here is that a single being appears to be different depending on the perspective of the viewer. It is a really beautiful message for young children, in a brilliant, simple, engaging way. This is one of my new favorite things to do.

I am a retired art teacher of early childhood. Every illustration in this book stands alone as a piece of art while serving as a wonderful manual to encourage young minds to enjoy their natural observation skills and improve their own. The story shows without preaching the fact that every pair of eyes sees the world in their own unique way. It may also be your first zoology book, since it shows the difference in the vision and sense perception of each animal. In clear and unfussy language, the child gets to fly above the ground, underground, and travel underwater a bit. They will want to do this many times.

Great story with delightful pictures. As much as we loved it, our grandchildren loved it as much as we did. Tells Morals as well tells morals as well. Our youngest was a little lost on our youngest, but the four-year old and six year old got the meaning very nicely. Would particularly recommend for a grandparent wanting to spend some quality time with their little ones.

   Great
My goddaughter loved this book, but I read it first and thought it was super cool. So great for all ages, from 4 years old to 35. ''.

   Great illustrations
The colors and pictures in this book are wonderful. I found the concept that the book was trying to understand, however a little difficult to transfer for the under 5 age group. My grandkids loved the pictures, but the concept of how things are perceived, depending on where you look, was a little over their heads. That said... the illustrations are lovely.

Using in classroom for point of view
I bought this book because it is a great book to introduce a point of view. Credit for the idea goes to another teacher who used her little girl's book in the classroom! Great to start the discussion! Great to start the discussion! ''

   LOVE!
My three-year-old loves, loves and LOVES this book. His favorite animals are of the feline family, so that this book was perfect for him. It is definitely one of our go-to books for bedtime.

Cute book for an older little kid.
The art is well executed and I do like the message, however it is a little beyond a young child's understanding. My two year old is actually afraid of the art's art, where the mouse sees the cat, and tends to skip this page. I would recommend this book to a schooler perhaps, but not a kindergartener.

   Wonderful illustrations
This will be really fun to share with my grandsons when they are just a little older. Right now they are still on the basic board books.
