This is a massive improvement over the author's last book. The prose is excellent, no longer bizarre, the characters are fleshed out and fascinating, and I loved World Building!
   Didn’t flow.
It seemed like a wonderful concept, except it did not flow just. Some aspects that the author spent way too much time describing, while it appeared to some other, more important aspects were left wanting. In the end, I still loved the idea of this book and would have loved it if the execution was a little more polished.
   Poison Ivy
I am a HUGE poison ivy fan, so when I heard about this book from the author of another wonderful retelling, Cinderella is Dead, I knew I had to grab this book quickly. I loved building the world, the characters, the mystery. I can 't wait for more from Kalynn.
   Super Enjoyable!
I chose to read this because of the cover it is so beautiful and the cover for the second book is even more beautiful! Briseis had a connection to plants all her life, she adopted and her parents have no idea why she can do this. After the last living member of her birth mother's line dies, Briseis inherits her estate, she moves to this small New York town together with her moms where weird things and people are. Finally will she be able to figure out how she has this power? I will say that the book was a slow read at first, not uninteresting, just slower. Which was actually kind of nice because it felt realistic to how Briseis would have come to learn her family history! I can 't wait to read the next book! Definitely a must read if you like Greek mythology and are looking for something with LGBTQ+ characters that are a little different!
   This Poison Heart
When a lawyer reaches out to her mother about Bri inheriting an estate from her birth mother's sister. The timing could not be better! The rent for their apartment and the florist store has been raised again. Bri and her parents decided to check the house for the summer! Bri will find answers about her powers and her family but ends with many more questions!
   Brilliantly captivating
This book was absolutely perfect . I am notorious for finishing books and never starting them. I would definitely recommend this to everyone, but especially black girls, because it is awesome to read and see yourself in characters in a way that feels natural, as it should. Kalynn Bayron also does an amazing job, including historymythology, etc.
Loved it til the end which totally confused me
Well-written, imaginative, interesting characters, but the end was truly unsatisfying. It didn't wrap all the loose ends and I felt that some characters didn't act consistently. It was perhaps setting the next book instead of finishing this one.
One of my favorite books of 2021!
I loved it absolutely! Black Girl Rep, LGBTQIA+ magic, twists and turns!
Oh, my goodness! This was such an all-encompassing read! The way the plot came together with a slow burn and the pieces of history that developed to the fore was just amazing. I don 't want to wait for the sequel!
Greek Mythology+ literal Black girl Magic. What more do you need?
This was such a good book first. The character introductions and the slow reveal of what is actually going on and where this is amazing. The ending was truly phenomenal and I can 't wait for the next book.
