Book Overview

Small, feisty Siberian husky Togo--the overlooked sled-dog hero of the 1925 serum run to Nome--sets the record straight in Dog Diaries #4

When a diptheria epidemic breaks out in isolated Nome, Alaska, in January 1925, the only way to get life-saving serum to the town is by using dog-sled relay teams. Twenty teams participate, and the dog who inevitably gets credit for saving the town is Balto, lead dog on the final team which delivered the serum. But few people have ever heard of 12-year-old Togo and his musher Leonard Seppala, who carried the serum for almost double the length of any other team, and twice violated warnings to avoid perilous Norton Sound and instead ran straight over the frozen ice With realistic black-and-white illustrations by Tim Jessell--plus an appendix with information about Siberian huskies, sled dogs, mushers, and more--Togo's tale is perfect for middle-grade readers who love a spunky underdog

I can 't say enough about this wonderful story about a dog that is so intelligent and hard working. Togo is a true hero of mankind.
   Daughter Loves Them
Nice books, nice reading. I like the historical contexts included in the books, my daughter loves them and has read them all. She can read a book in about an hour and a half and has kept them all to read again.
   great read
My eight-year-old daughter, who has always loved animals, loves this book. She is a great reader and has placed it on her list as one of her favorites. I would recommend this to everyone.
Perfect for a dog loving reluctant reader!
My 3 year old son is an advanced reader who doesn 't particularly enjoys reading. He is at a strange stage where chapter books are either too easy and babyish or the chapters are too long for him to sit through. His class is studying Iditarod at school and doing a reading challenge to go with it, so I thought I'd give him some books to read for the challenge. I've ordered a couple of these and this was the clear winner. He loved reading the book over video games and asked for more in the series! Win-win!
   Quick story
He uses a lot of metaphors and my 9yr old was constantly asking “what does that mean?” LOL. I wish they had included more details of Diphtheria - serums run, but a good read for 11ish year olds anyway.
8 year old boy loved it
My son is not a frequent reader of chapter books, but he was familiar with this Disney + story and was so excited to tell me how it ended. He has asked for other books in the series and is currently reading Dash.
   My love for a husky
I have this book five stars. It was very sad and at times very exciting. If you love stories about dogs, you will enjoy this book.
   Great for my 8-year-old
My eight-year-old daughter loved this story after we learned that Balto was not the greatest canine hero in Alaska - rescue. She also enjoyed Barry, another title in this series, which is the one about the legendary St. Bernard in Switzerland.
