Sometimes, Tolkien's original essay is a little long, because of the wealth of knowledge and references he includes, but this edition provides all the notes and references a reader might want, plus additional commentary to place Tolkien's essay in context. For any reader interested in defining the genre of fantasy, this edition of Tolkien's work is a must-read.

I did not know that this book existed. Surprise, in no time Amazon had the bok, and then it was at my front door, amazing. The book dealers in the UK did a wonderful job delivering this fantastic book to me. Thank you so much for being so kind. I am so happy, job well done and I am happy reading my now Tolkein Lewis book. Thank you, smooch ''. Cathy lives in Temecula, CA, with her husband John.

   A great read!
For those who don 't know, this book was Tolkien's essay that he wrote between The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. Tolkien disputes the idea that in his day, fairy stories were only for children by explaining his own theories on mythopoeia, eucatastrophe, the Fae, etc. If you read the Lord of the Rings, I recommend reading this book as well.
