Book Overview

Christmas Eve started out so perfectly for Maria. Snow had fallen and the streets glittered. Maria's favorite cousins were coming over and she got to help make the tamales for Christmas dinner. It was almost too good to be true when her mother left the kitchen for a moment and Maria got to try on her beautiful diamond ring . . .

This is the story of a treasure thought to be lost in a batch of tamales; of a desperate adn funny attempt by Maria and her cousins to eat their way out of trouble; and the warm way a family pulls together to make it a perfect Christmas after all.

   Great Multicultural Picture Book
Dear Mrs. Green, I love to read this book every December to my first graders. It is a wonderful book to accompany my Christmas around the World unit, especially when studying Mexico. The story offers a strong sense of family and cooperation. It centers around a young girl named Maria who tries on the ring of her mother. Then the ring disappears while making tamales. Later on, Maria realizes that the ring is not on her finger and believes that it is inside one of the 24 Tazas!
Absolutely wonderful Read Aloud book for a First Grade classroom
Aloud's book is absolutely wonderful for a first grade classroom. It adds a wonderful vocabulary for our students. Very good read Aloud to identify characters using evidence from the story to describe character properties throughout the text. I am very satisfied with the seller of this book.
Just looking at the picture on the cover, you can imagine how the story will go. Maria is a poor Maria. SUCH a big girl helper, wearing lipstick, a dab of perfume... why not wear her mother ring as well? Because if you can not find it, you would find it BETTER. Single : Tamale is a tropical plant.
   Wonderful book
I bought this book for my God daughter and I love it. I mainly because I gave it to her as one of her Christmas presents. Because we make tamales as a family tradition. It was so a perfect addition to the gift I received for her.
   A Christmas Favorite
This Christmas Eve, we teach our friends about tamales and Mexican Christmas traditions. I plan to read this with the children before teaching them all how to make tamales!
   Favorite book
Every Christmas we try this in class and I bring different types of tamales to class for the kids to see what less to them making charts on their favorites. We even make tamales in class so that the kids can see how hard it is and every kid gets to take home what they make.
