Although Matty's art teacher has warned him that too much glue never dries, Matty loves glue. After all, he and his dad make oodles of glue projects at home. One day during art class, Matty finds the fullest bottles of glue, and the fun begins. With a squeeze and a plop, Matty pours a lake of glue before belly-flopping right in the middle and finds himself stuck to the desk. When Matty's dad arrives at the school, instead of being mad, he celebrates his son's creativity and calls him a work of art. With vibrant language and artwork and a wild, silly plot, Too Much Glue is sure to appeal to all children who love to get messy.

Not my type of book.

I am a teacher and my children seem to like it. I don 't like it as much because it does not teach anything at the end, you are not supposed to use a lot of glue, but the kid and his family end up super happy with the product of using too much glue, it actually gave me ideas about one of my kids... It is a good book and the illustrations are super fun.

OMG

I taught elementary art for 5 years. This book verbally communicated what I have been saying effectively for this long time in 5 minutes. Because the message came in such a fun and colorful format, I know from my first kindergarten class that self-monitoring occurs when they use glue. I hear the students chirp, too much glue! whenever their neighbors get too crazy with the glue.

Use it every school year with my Kinders!
Derived From Web , Jun 1, 2022
I often use this book in my kindergarten classroom at the beginning of the year, and we refer to it during the year if we have any glue oopsies! We use this story in conjunction with a song that we sing in class and make-up practice with glue bottles. If you teach home school or kindergarten education, this is a great book for you!

Fun Book, but Doesn't Teach a Lesson
Derived From Web , Jun 1, 2022
At the beginning of the year, I read this to my preschoolers and loved them. It is often a request that remains to be reread. I like how the teacher says, put raindrops, not puddles, because it is easy to understand and a phrase we use at the art center. Matthew, however, does not have any consequences for using too much glue. He gets entangled, and then his father actually praises him. I wish there was a little more incentive to not use too much of duct tape in the story. After reading this first time, I had a discussion with my children to make sure that too much of a glue is a bad thing.

Every Elementary School Art Teacher who wants their students to learn and laugh MUST buy this book!
Derived From Web , Apr 1, 2021
I am a K-5 elementary school art teacher in NYC and I have been reading this book for at least five years to nearly all my students! The story is rich and engaging for students, full of potential questions. It is easy to understand and even keeps you on the edge of your seat. Because it has been so popular at my school, I have been able to make the entire story last up to a full 45 minute period, with time for wrapping and even some drawing. It is one of those stories that gives more, the more it is read. A great investment in the future!

Not a cautionary tale
Derived From Web , Jan 29, 2018
I was hoping for a sweet story to show my students how to manage their glue usage, but that is not what this is. It is a good story and in it's own right it is good, but not what I expected. The school staff are antagonists with stereotypical skills that fill zero problem solving roles. I wish the story showed a trusted school adult who encouraged his creativity, but his father saves the day at the end. However, great illustrations are needed!
