Book Overview

Following the success of Quadrivium, Sciencia, and Designa in the acclaimed Wooden Books series, Trivium is a compendium of writings on the classical subjects at the heart of a liberal education, bringing the wisdom of the past into the twenty-first century.

The trivium refers to the three liberal arts considered in classical Greece to be the pillars of critical thought: grammar, logic, and rhetoric. Following on the success of Quadrivium and Sciencia, Trivium gathers six Wooden Books titles together into a beautiful six-color package that presents ancient wisdom in an accessible way. Trivium will include the books Euphonics, Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric, Poetic Meter and Form, and Ethics.

Wooden Books was founded in 1999 by designer John Martineau near Hay-on-Wye. The aim was to produce a beautiful series of recycled books based on the classical philosophies, arts and sciences. Using the Beatrix Potter formula of text facing picture pages, and old-styles fonts, along with hand-drawn illustrations and 19th century engravings, the books are designed not to date. Small but stuffed with information. Eco friendly and educational. Big ideas in a tiny space. There are over 1,000,000 Wooden Books now in print worldwide and growing.

Emphasis on style at the expense of some substance.
A potential good intro for aspiring people, as well as young writers. I do understand the need to stylize these topics in a time where logic and sense-making are considered uninteresting. I have some gripes about the specifics of the content, but for those who would be motivated by good illustrations and things, this book would be a nice start. There are additional books included within the books on grammar, logic and rhetoric, poetic meter and form, and ethics. More information is usually good, but I would have preferred a book titled Trivium to focus on the proper trivium.
   Great combo-book
It is still reading, though. Skimming suggests that it contains new and interesting points of view and learning methods that I have not previously been exposed to.
   Good, but out of order...
I use the book to refresh what I learned in high school. One important problem, however, is : In BOOK II they mention Clauses in learning about verbs and yet have not made it into the section on clauses. If Clauses should not be taught before you use them? Or teach them at the same time with verbs. Regardless, the book is interesting and useful. Using my phone to obtain definitions and example is not that annoying.
   Back to Basics
A good book to read and a fascinating reference work to have on your bookshelf, whether you're just serious about the written and spoken word or are looking back on a lifetime-long love affair with verbal communication.
If you have ever wanted to wake up and feel smarter, read this book. The explanations are unique and simple, eloquent, and thorough. Highly recommended for anyone serious about learning the humanities.
   Wooden Books are amazing!
Get this and others to gain insight into much that is sorely overlooked within Western culture, especially within the states.
   5 stars, would buy again
Wonderful 1010 - films are being created. There are no bent pages, clean hard cover. The Smells brand is new and the book is phenomenal. Amazon - thank you.
A Learning that predates today’s educational systems of indoctrination.
It is difficult to surmise this book, however. I believe that I have.
