the junk food version of love. R.F. still makes me laugh.

I am a huge fan of Robert Fulghum's short essay books, particularly his earliest works, as they make me laugh and have been good medicine. This book is not strictly his writing, but a collection of stories told to him by other people and so has a different flavor. The stories run the gamut, anonymous and barefaced, of intimate stories of love, love lost or love wished, making them endearing and sometimes frightening depending on the story and your point of view. About three quarters of the way into the book, Fulghum acknowledges the potential creeps. This book is a snack food. It was quick and easy, but not very filling. Maybe it's not so healthy. There are a few stories that are vintage Fulghum. He makes me happy.

T he stories were selected by the author. Individual accounts of magical, powerful and inspiring love - lost, found and both. It seems to me that they share a similar quality that is hard to express: they are real in a very real way.A wonderful document about love in our culture and time.I was hoping that one story would show the discovery of love as a universal principle which informs all its expressions that we experience.I missed seeing it or I didn't find one. This is not a criticism, just a hope for more.
