   I love this book
If you love Mexican food, you have to have this book. I 'll cook my way through it and decide what you will make won t disappoint you. I consider myself an advanced cook, but I think even someone with not very strong cooking skills can make several recipes.

A Great Introduction To The Basics... AND MORE!
I have been making tamales for years and St. Louis has developed a high number of nice places in the past 10 years. I won 't pretend that I know real quality, but I know the low end Tex Mex grew up on and we are doing better. I am not a culinary expert, but this book got me making my own tortillas quickly and I have made several of the entrees. Everyone I have prepared has been a complex crowd pleaser and the only thing that forced me to go to a Mexican super merado was a recipe calling for multatillos. The best day in and day out has been the good rice recipe, which is quick and easy and is just so white. For me, this has been a great introduction. I highly recommend ''.

Quality Recipes for the Home Cook
It seems that people were expecting Pujol recipes in this book, but this is not written to help you make food of chef quality. This book serves its purpose well with this as the theme. From tortillas to squash blossom soup, from Mole to Lentil Salad, this is a very handy book to see a method and recipe that will produce authentic and tasty Mexican food. I have docked a star because a hardcover would have made the book last longer and more presentable, but as a Mexican cook book for home cooks, this book is a winner.

   Very poorly done!
The job was done very poorly. The first cover will not close completely after the cheap opening. Grainy photography and uninteresting recipies are excluded. I wish I 'd read the other reviews before purchasing them.

   Good for beginners
As a new myself, I expected more variety in this cookbook, dishes that were Mexican, recipes that I have not tried or even heard for myself to make. Well, Oh! Its new and exciting I'm still keeping it, just hoping that Gabriela Camara's book will have some dishes that are fine!

   Not impressed
If you are looking for a book that contains simple recipes all in one place, then this book is for you. Besides that, I am very disappointed with this cookbook. The pictures are nice, but there is nothing special about any of the recipes. I could have done a quick internet search and found most of these recipes online. I had high hopes for this book, but I seriously overestimated what would be this book. I wish I could like it, but I don 't. Not impressed with the quality of the service provided by the company.

   Disappointed
I waited 6 months for this book pre-ordering based on the reputation of the chef and the publisher. The description on the order and pictures was that it was a hard cover, but was delivered as a flexicover. I send this back. Enrique Olvera's name is associated with it and makes him and this process look like amateurs. Every other Phaidon book I have is top notch, it seems like something happened here.

Not your traditional Mexican Food Cookbook - Grab a copy!
My copy arrived on March 27, 2019 and has been fun looking at the recipes and I already marked a few that I will try out soon! The only thing I was very disappointed about was that the book arrived damaged from the front cover. Looks like it was cracked and bent over. This is disappointing because of the cost of the book. It deserves the stars, as it should be based on me reviewing it, but that crack is a bummer.

   Very Disappointing
First things first, this is not a hardback, as pictured. Phaidon usually makes the most attractive, best-selling cookbooks, but this is cheap and should be half the price. $31 is quite an outrageous. This would be a beautiful book if you have never purchased Mexican food before, never cooked a Mexican cookbook and want simple bare bones recipes. There is nothing written about this book that could have been unique or intriguing 30 years ago. These are the most common recipes that you have seen over and over again. Save your money and buy a book by Rick Bayless for $2 or another Mexican author.
