Book Overview

A landmark American drama that inspired a classic film and a Broadway revival--featuring an introduction by David Mamet

A blistering character study and an examination of the American melting pot and the judicial system that keeps it in check, Twelve Angry Men holds at its core a deeply patriotic faith in the U.S. legal system. The play centers on Juror Eight, who is at first the sole holdout in an 11-1 guilty vote. Eight sets his sights not on proving the other jurors wrong but rather on getting them to look at the situation in a clear-eyed way not affected by their personal prejudices or biases. Reginald Rose deliberately and carefully peels away the layers of artifice from the men and allows a fuller picture to form of them--and of America, at its best and worst.

After the critically acclaimed teleplay aired in 1954, this landmark American drama went on to become a cinematic masterpiece in 1957 starring Henry Fonda, for which Rose wrote the adaptation. More recently, Twelve Angry Men had a successful, and award-winning, run on Broadway.

Fun, Entertaining and a Great Audiobook. Not compatible with the written versions of the story for classroom use.
A superb recording of 12 Angry Men. It was actually highly entertaining and awesome, Mr. D'Antonio said. However, the one issue I had with it, and it was not a five star rating, was that it was not compatible with any of the existing, current print editions of the story. For anyone who is looking to listen to a superb audiobook on the way home from work or something, this is the audiobook to buy!

   fine
Not surprisingly, the review rate was pretty good. The cover is cracked and the book is missing its first two pages. Like the first book, this one is very good. The new slimmest piece of furniture is also the only one that has a thin veneer. Very easy to read.

We read it in our homeschool group's Classical Acting class and all the scholars (ages 14-18) loved it.
What a great play, Gillian. We read it in our homeschool group and all the scholars loved it.

   Reasonable Doubt
One woman started a conversation and debate that led to 11 other people changing their minds about the defendant, 888-282-0476 said. But the Swiss system is far superior to the rest of the world.

Needed this book for a school project, and I ended up reading it again because it was so good! This is by far the best book I have read this year.

   Downloaded weird on my Kindle
Amazon said the book was "out of order" and the entire front of the book was "covered in tape". I'm very grateful that nobody asked for money, Mr. Kennedy said. I was able to borrow a hard copy from a friend and I absolutely love the story, but I couldn't read it on my Kindle.

   Great book
If you havent read this in school, I would definitely recommend it to you. It gives you an entirely different view of the court room the story is told through the jurors.

   A classic worth reading again
Many of us try to dodge jury duty, or grudgingly suffer through it. The play, "Whose Yard?", tells the story of a civic duty and the difference it can make in the lives of the accused and victims. Juries feel a heavy responsibility to get it right, providing justice to the victims and fairness to the accused, Mr. Rule told the judge. Yes, I know the plot is a little wonky, but just to say that a lone person can be enough to make a difference.
