Book Overview

The magical friendship of Phoebe and her best friend, unicorn Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, is back in this second adventure of a girl and her mythical creature

One year has passed since Phoebe skipped a rock across a pond, accidentally hit a unicorn in the face, and was granted a single wish--which she used to make the unicorn, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, her obligational best friend. In some ways, not much has changed. At school Phoebe still clashes with her rival--and sometimes frenemy--he ever-taunting and imperious Dakota. Outside of school, she still fills her free time with extra-credit homework assignments, dramatic monologues about the injustices associated with school cliques, and imaginative conspiracy theories regarding global forces like the powerful construction paper lobby. But unlike before, Phoebe now has a best friend to share it with--someone to make her laugh and to listen to all her extravagant ideas.

In this second volume of Dana Simpson's Phoebe and Her Unicorn series, titled, Unicorn on a Roll, the reader is invited on a journey into the lives of Phoebe and Marigold as they navigate the difficulties of grade school, celebrate the winter holidays, and explore their super hero/super villain personas together. Join in the fun, as Phoebe competes against Dakota for the leading role of Lisa Ladybug in their fourth-grade play--or Read More chevron_right

What a Wonderful Comic for Adults and Children
This series is my favorite! Can 't wait to swipe the book once my young daughter tires of it. She has already read it about 4 times. It is fun, whimsical and refreshing. While the story is a similar kind of plot as Calvin and Hobbes, it shines on its own. The art is colorful, fun and original. The characters are cute, fun and silly, but at the same time they are intelligent and three dimensional. Lots of magical banter and witty fun. I also like that the unicorn can be seen by Phoebe's parents really well. It is especially worth owning if you have a little girl.

   Unicorn on a roll
People, this book is so good, but if you don 't like nonsense like magic or makebelive, I like this tho.

much less soppy than the title would suggest - more like a female
Very amusing cartoons, much less soppy than the title would suggest more like a female, techno-age Calvin and Hobbes.

My granddaughter enjoys this collection of Phoebe and her Unicorn
As described and great service, product was tickled to be able to find a hardcover without paying an outrageous amount of money.

   Poor messaging for young girls.
Focused on the looks and calling names like stupid and dweeb. I will not purchase these for my kid or for any of her unicorn-loving friends.

   Cute read.
My step-daughter really likes this series. I found the first book at Target, and she HAS to read them in order, or all is not right in the world. I'm happy that these read like a graphic novel, as it is a good medium and.

   Good for a wide range
I haven 't read it, so my review is based on my children. We read it yesterday and my children, 7,9,10 and 12 have all received it. I bought it for my nine-year-old daughter and all my boys made fun of it and then read it. They loved it all. My husband was laughing when he read the first.

   Fun for kids and parents
This is a book I enjoyed reading with my kid. Some jokes now go a bit over her head, but she will grow with it and probably enjoy finding these jokes as she gets older. As others have it has a modern Calvin and Hobbs vibe.

   Great graphic novels for kids
It is a great way for reluctant readers, fans of unicorns or lovers of graphic novels to enjoy reading. My kid loves these so much that she wants to make her own graphic novels now!
