Book Overview

Three volumes in one A prestige treatment of Inoue's epic samurai series with bonus content, color pages, storyboard samples and more

Real-life figure Miyamoto Musashi was the most celebrated samurai of all time. The quintessential warrior-philosopher, Musashi authored A Book of Five Rings, a classic treatise in the canon of world philosophy and military strategy. But the path to enlightenment is an endless journey, and to get there through violent means--by way of the sword--makes mere survival an even greater challenge.

Invincible Under the Sun

At seventeen years of age, Miyamoto Musashi--still known by his childhood name, Shinmen Takezō--was a wild young brute just setting out along the way of the sword.

In the aftermath of the epic Battle of Sekigahara, Takezō finds himself a fugitive survivor on the losing side of the war. Takezō's vicious nature has made him an outcast even in his own village, and he is hunted down like an animal. At this crucial crossroads in Takezō's life, an eccentric monk and a childhood friend are the only ones who can help him find his way.

   Wow
The art work for this series is very different. I read this because I was staring at the panels. The quality of the VIZBIG page is something to be admired. You have to have this, but I can't say what it is or what it means.

Parent heads up. Has boobies and sex.
There is a caveat for parents who's kids are just starting with Manga and are interested in it. I bought this for my son who really wanted it. When he opened it, we both noticed the explicit content on the front and I scanned it to make sure I didn't buy comic porn for my kid. I opened a page of exposed boobs and saw a scene that implied sex, fully exposed male backside, and not fully exposed insertion. I had to make a quick decision, that he was 14 and had already seen horror films with sex and boobs, so we rolled with it. It wasn't pornographic. For parent's sake, I thought everyone should be aware of this.

Got my package, but condition is poor. Bought new
It came in a good time. Yes, but! The top corner of the back cover has been damaged. It doesn't look new as well. There are scratches on the front cover. I am a fan of managa and have been looking for this series for a long time. I was very disappointed in the condition of it. To other books that came with the book. It was intact. Be careful with the buyer!

   Book quality is disappointing
The book started falling apart after a few days. I don't want to be bothered, so I'd send it back.

THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE QUALITY OF THE PHYSICAL PRODUCT NOT THE INTEGRITY OR QUALITY OF THE STORY
The book is torn apart by the bend of the book. I've had a lot of pages fall out while reading. The glue that holds the pages together is not strong enough. Trust me, I've seen many other complaints about the structure of these editions. The review of this physical product needs to be at least 1 star because it is not well made.

   Cover is damaged
The back cover is falling off, but the pages are in good condition. Review said that it was tight. I'm pretty disappointed but I guess some tape will have to be done.

   Epic masterpiece
When I was looking for something else, the cover image of Vagabond popped up, and I'd never heard of it before. It was interesting enough to give it a try, mostly because of one great review and cover. What a find it was. It has gorgeous art, an engaging story line, and a gallery of interesting characters. It's the kind of Manga that makes you think and is beautiful. I started reading it at 10pm and it was half past 3am. It was worth losing sleep over because I didn't notice the time went by. If that were an option, I would give this edition more than 5 stars because it has great production quality, arrived in great condition and is in great shape. There should be an extra star for the way the eyes are drawn.

The books look 10x better than the internet
The quality of the books is incredible, and I just bought all 12 volumes for Christmas, after reading them online. The books look better than the internet. I'm drooling with excitement because this is my favorite of all time. If you are looking for a great story with character depth, action and beautiful artwork, this series is for you.

Vagabond is an amazing series targeted at a slightly older audience
The series is targeted at an older audience than the usual Manga series would cater to. There's a lot of gore and nudity in the movie but it's not offensive. The nudity and gore are not for fanservice. This series is already amazing because everything has its purpose.
