Book Overview

Three volumes in one A prestige treatment of Inoue's epic samurai series with bonus content, color pages, storyboard samples and more

Real-life figure Miyamoto Musashi was the most celebrated samurai of all time. The quintessential warrior-philosopher, Musashi authored A Book of Five Rings, a classic treatise in the canon of world philosophy and military strategy. But the path to enlightenment is an endless journey, and to get there through violent means--by way of the sword--makes mere survival an even greater challenge.

Musashi suffers a humiliating defeat against Inshun, the second-generation master of Hōzōin Temple. To prepare for a rematch, Musashi undertakes an intense spiritual and physical training regimen with a most unlikely teacher--Inshun's predecessor, the founder of the Hōzōin Spear Technique. To attain the focus necessary to take on the most technically proficient and deadliest fighter he has ever faced, Musashi will first have to confront his own deep-seated personal demons.

The best omnibus manga I've purchased to date.
This is a very well presented volume of a book, perhaps the best quality trade paperback for an omnibus manga you will ever buy. I own Naruto, Death Do Us Part, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Lone Wolf and Cub omnibus mangas. Get your money's worth. Only a handful of people wrote accurate reviews of the story, so I would recommend reading those. I wanted to share my experience of actually owning the book. Even if you own the previous volumes, I would find a way to own the omnibus edition for the additional features, such as more colored pages.

   awesome
I enjoy the first five volumes the best. Everything before you have to read about the damn blind dude so the story is split between the two and then some side characters get there own little stories, he said. This volume is by far the best English-language book I've ever read.

   weird denting and glue residue
Television was still running and the media could not be loaded. I'm generally pleased with the product, but the front cover bothers me a lot, it looks like there's some dabs of hot glue on it. i managed to scrape most of it off but the cover is still a little wacky.

WARNING: The books fall apart mid-read.
A two-star rating for book quality. Each volume was literally in tatters after I'd read it once, and I got the first three volumes to dip my feet into the story - each one was in tatters after I'd read it casually. I really didn't feel any interest in the full ride after reading the first three volumes, he said. Everything about this film is masterful, and the action is cool, but everything that is fueling the protagonist's journey including the protagonist himself didn't resonate with me enough to want to see it through to the end. If you're curious, check out the rest of the review. You might think it's cool.

   Sloppy packaging
That really is a travesty, Mr. Rule told the judge. This is the second time I have received a damaged edition. It's a tough cover to bend, much less turn a perfect book into a parody.
