Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

The past comes back to haunt game warden Joe Pickett and his family with devastating effect in the thrilling new novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author.

The plane circled in the dark. Joe Pickett could just make out down below a figure in the snow and timber, and then three other figures closing in. There was nothing he could do about it. And Joe knew that he might be their next target.

The Cates family had always been a bad lot. Game warden Joe Pickett had been able to strike a fierce blow against them when the life of his daughter April had been endangered, but he'd always wondered if there'd be a day of reckoning. He's not wondering any longer. Joe knows they're coming after him and his family now. He has his friend Nate by his side, but will that be enough this time? All he can do is prepare . . . and wait for them to make the first move.

read one Joe Pickett and you are hooked!
CJ Box has a great talent for writing heart-stopping, edge of your sit drama in the beautiful West, where there is no such thing as a sunset. It's hard to put them down until they are finished. But, first, you have to get your hands on the next installment. I have read all three of the novels, but this series really gets my attention. It's great to see that the show is being developed, Bruno said. Craig Johnson's book and DVD series Longmire are also very entertaining.

   Disappointed
For my personal reading, I used this technique. I ordered a new copy, but it turned out that the used one was already in stock. Throughout the book the writer's name was inked on the back, sometimes replaced with other words. It was very distracting and irritating, and I would recommend it to anyone. It's a big disappointment coming from Amazon.

   Joe Pickett stories
This story, and all others, are all fun to read. A little off putting, but needed so that a reader can pick up a book in mid-series and have it make sense, he said. I'm not saying I want to visit Wyoming, but the rest of the state is great.

   The Circle is Vicious.
I really enjoy doing that, Bruno says. Joe Pickett, Jr., was a witness to Box's trash talk. Landscapes are beautiful, too, he said. But the two characters are not perfect. Except for Nate. Nate is the perfect match. I really wonder who, if anyone, reads his books. There are so many contradictions between the book and the speaker's voice that one cannot help but wonder how many times they were written. It's just that I find the whole thing a little irritating.

   Too many inconsistencies
Just starting, just starting. I'll finish it, but it's a disappointment. It's a terrible situation, and it needs better editing. Then he mentions that she was accused of murdering her husband, then the next sentence says Bud was found hanging from his wind turbine. It's a lie, the McCanns said, that Bud was murdered. He also suggests that she had a secret agreement with Joe that she stay away forever in exchange for not disclosing that she was the actual killer. When Missy meets Dulcie, it is implied that another prosecutor tried to kill Missy, when it was actually Dulcie, and Missy should have remembered her. There have been inconsistencies in the previous books, but this one is by far the worst.

Dallas Cates really dislikes Joe Pickett
C.J. Abraham, Duke's assistant vice president for research, said in an interview that the university wants to keep in touch with C.J. Abraham. Anthony Minghella and Gillian Robeson's "Vicious Circle" was also excellent. I'm not even talking about the Beatles, Harrison said. Joe Pickett is now a finalist for the Edgar Award for fiction. Consequently, I’ve grown accustomed to the main characters in the story and could relate to them quickly, Morgenthau said. I can recommend reading "Endangered" by Douglas Adams as a standalone, but I'd recommend reading "The Vicious Circle" by Joe Pickett first. By reading Endangered first, you'll have a better feel for the character of Joe's semi-outlaw buddy, falconer Nate Romanowski. For the unique personalities of his wife and three daughters, Diana Vazzi said. That'll add to your enjoying Vicious Circle, which got my five-star rating.

   Fun
Joe Pickett is one of those rare novelists. Great that a psychopath named Nate comes out of the woodwork, Crowe said. That was pretty impressive, man."

Joe Pickett and Nate Romanowski are at it again!
I've read all 17 books in this series and they never fail to entertain me. Joe Pickett is a truly honorable man who finds himself on the wrong side of some very bad people. I'm delighted to be number 18.

Has to be a different person writing this
A lifelong fan of the hip-hop performer. I was shocked at how poorly this book was written, Mr. Box said. If I had read this book, I would never pick up another by this author. His other works are also excellent, McCartney said. This is just a technicality, Mr. Rule told the judge. Just keep plodding along, get over it, and enjoy the ride.

   Superb read
Totally believable and love the way Romanowsky was brought into the story, Morgenthau said. Great description of the change of seasons and all the beauty of the location, he said. Even with time, character development is super. Future plans call for more Vazzis, Hurley said.
