Book Overview

Troubled Waters

Free at last, Thorfinn sets off on an expedition to Vinland, to establish a place free of war and slavery. In an effort to fund his project, Thorfinn visits Iceland where Halfdan, a wealthy man who shared a dark history with his late father, awaits. Meanwhile, the marriage between Halfdan's son Sigurd and Leif 's relative Gudrid are well under way, but Gudrid dreams of becoming a sailor, not a bride. A battle soon breaks out as Gudrid attempts to escape aboard Leif 's ship. With Sigurd hot at their tail, Thorfinn and the crew press eastward to the city of Miklagard, picking up an orphaned baby and a dog along the way.

   My favorite series
I hooked on this story and have all the issued volumes and the next ordered!!! The show is unique too to the books identical with story and art style!

First time Feminism is forced into the novel.
Up to this point, Vinland has been absolutely my favorite series, not missing a beat, but after reading Book 8 there seems to be an agenda that is developing to satisfy the modern feminist. If that is your thing, cool, keep reading. If not and you are like me, this book will disappoint you. (For example, a woman rebels against her physical duties to be a sailor and is shown to be able to do physical labor just as good, if not better than most men. ) There's a woman who kills a bear that the main male hero can not kill ; she kills it only with a crossbow arrow. This was cringey.

I got a defective copy hopefully no one else has gotten this issue
I love this series and recently ordered most of the available volumes and this has been my only disappointment. These particular pages are cut awkwardly and not only are they glued, so I can not view them fully. I'm sure that this is a defect and not all are like this, but I am not happy with this at all.

   I can't wait for more!
I love to see Thorfinn come into his own as a leader and a person.
